Nightlife in Seattle has many options to satisfy visitors and locals with varied tastes. Cultural stops and architectural wonders satisfy the tourist with a penchant to delve in the city's history while its thriving music and social scene allow those with more spring in the step to enjoy an evening of loud heart rate rising fun.
City Landmarks
No better place exists in Seattle to take in the view of the city lit up at night than the Space Needle. Its observation tower offers a 360 degree of the skyline with an outdoor and indoor viewing area in case of inclement weather, which is likely in Seattle. Guests can also take advantage of the Space Needle's gift shop and espresso bar. Observation deck hours run from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to midnight Friday through Saturday.
Sporting Events
Visitors to Seattle have the opportunity to take in a night baseball game and watch the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field. Night games have become a tradition in baseball and something of a right of passage for fathers and sons. Depending on the time of year, the nearby Seattle Seahawks may also be in town and playing under the lights at Qwest Field. Tickets for NFL games tend to sell out several months in advance so guests should plan ahead when thinking of visiting the area.
The Left Coast Look
The Ballard district of Seattle covers some of the city's lake shores and connectors to the Puget Sound. The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks links Lake Union with the Sound and was built to accommodate a vast amount of ships. Visitors are able to see migrating salmon fighting through the locks to spawn up stream and may also take a walk through the scenic Carl S. English Gardens complete with plants both native and exotic. Grounds and locks are open until 9pm daily making it an ideal location for an evening stroll.
Coffee
If you go to Seattle and don't sit for an evening in one of its many coffeehouses, then you've wasted the trip. B&O Espresso is several blocks south of Lake Union and features a rogue's gallery of traditional espresso beverages and house coffee specialties to go along with a small breakfast and lunch menu. B&O stays open late, with hours extending until 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
A Rock Show
The Seattle music scene was responsible for much of the popular music throughout the United States through the 1990's, and today it still houses many popular venues. For those seeking a high-energy evening amongst the pierced and tattooed, try the Bad Juju Lounge, which features local rock musicians and a roster of house DJs, all with no cover charge. If the sleek and stylish is more your thing, check out Chop Suey, a hip venue for live acoustic acts and some national touring artists.
