If you are looking to lose weight without the use of prescription medication, then taking a Chinese herbal supplement can be a great alternative for you. Widely available in many local supermarkets and drug stores, these herbs help boost energy, suppress appetite, and can even aide in burning calories and fat deposits. Most of the herbs are available in pill form but can also be found as a powder or liquid extract.

Ginseng

One popular Chinese herb that is used for weight loss and diet plans is ginseng. According to the University of Michigan Health System, ginseng is commonly prescribed as an energy-boosting supplement for those suffering from fatigue. However, ginseng also affects the digestive system and a person's feeling of hunger by suppressing the desire to eat. As the website suggests, ginseng can help lead to a greater energy reserve to use for exercise and a more active lifestyle, which can also help lead to weight loss. In addition, ginseng has very few negative side effects and can therefore be taken as a daily supplement safely.

Goji Berry

Another helpful Chinese herb for the promotion of weight loss is goji berry. According to the University of Michigan Health System, goji berries derive from an Asian plant bearing the same name and have been used to boost immune system health and suppress hunger while also treating digestive disorders. In addition, goji berry has been found to help decrease fatigue during exercise, which can also help lead the user to burn fat and remain active for longer. Found in either pill or concentrate form, the website also states that very few major adverse effects have been documented with the consumption of goji, making this another herb that is safe for daily consumption.

Green Tea

According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, green tea is another useful Chinese herb for weight loss and diet plans. As the website suggests, researchers think that chemical substances found in these plants have antioxidant properties which can boost metabolism and help burn fat. The University does state, however, that further research into the consistency of green tea and weight loss needs to be conducted to substantiate these claims. Regardless, green tea is safe to take as a daily supplement due to the lack of major side effects associated with regular consumption.
