Cosmetic products like foundation or concealer can help camouflage splotchy skin, liver spots and other poor skin tone problems. Instead of covering up your skin, rejuvenate the skin cells themselves to even out your skin tone. Several products, chosen as effective by beauty experts, can help recondition your skin's surface for better tone.

Aveeno Positively Radiant Triple Boosting Serum

Aveeno's serum is oil free and hypoallergenic, perfect for both sensitive skin and blemish-prone skin. Aveeno reports that it includes more soybean extract in the serum than in any of its other products. Soy may help smooth out skin texture and improve skin tone, according to cosmetics expert Paula Begoun. It may also help improve the skin's production of collagen, Begoun says, though she warns that Aveeno's claims on wrinkle reduction aren't supported by clinical trials.

Clinique Even Better Skin Tone Corrector

Clinique's skin tone correcting serum was the sole winner in the Prestige anti-aging category of the 2009 beauty awards put on by Cosmetic Executive Women, one of the beauty industry's largest trade groups. It includes various antioxidants to help fade photoaging symptoms like liver spots and skin discoloration for a more even skin tone. Don't expect instant results, as the CEW reports it can take six weeks or longer to see visual results in your skin tone. Regular use may help prevent the appearance of new discolorations.

Perricone MD Neuropeptide Eye Contour

Perricone's eye cream is recommended by Elle magazine due to its exceptionally high level of neuropeptides. These peptides boost your skin's natural elastin and collagen production to help plump up the skin and smooth away wrinkles; improve the skin's general health; and even out its tone, according to the magazine.

Kiehl's Highly Effective Skin Tone Corrector

Begoun handed Kiehl's skin tone corrector the highest rating on her three-tiered review system. The manufacturer claims it helps erase skin tone problems like liver spots or splotches due to ultraviolet light damage. Begoun says applying this product in conjunction with a standard sunscreen will "likely improve your skin." Its active ingredient, glycolic acid, also helps exfoliate skin for improved texture.
