Lots of men think skin care is for girls. Besides shaving, you may not think about your skin. However, caring for your skin is important for your present and future. Skin is the body's first line of defense against germs and diseases. In addition, your skin starts to droop as you get older, causing wrinkles and facial lines. Taking care of your skin is important. These tips will help you keep your skin in shape without too much bother or expense.
WASH UP
Proper skin care takes just a few minutes a day. Wash your face once or twice a day with mild soap and water. Do not use a deodorant soap or another strong soap on your face; these products will dry your skin. Wash, rinse and pat dry with a clean towel. A couple of times a week, wash your face with a facial cleanser. Slowly work the cleanser into your skin with a warm washcloth and a circular motion. This cleans out your pores and removes dead skin cells, leaving your facial skin fresh. After you've cleansed you face, gently rub on some moisturizing lotion. If you're worried about smelling like a bouquet of flowers, use a fragrance-free product or one specifically designed for men.
SUNSCREEN
The sun and wind can dry and damage your skin. Put on some sunscreen if you you'll be outside for a while, even if it's cloudy. Clouds don't completely block ultraviolet rays from the sun. Sunscreen with an SPF of 15 should do the job. Apply the sunscreen to all parts of your skin exposed to the sun, including the tops of your ears. Pick a sunscreen that has aloe and moisturizers in it. Once you're inside, put on some facial cream. You can also apply this any time your face feels dry.
SHAVING
Shaving is hard on your face, so get it done right. If you use a blade, make sure that your face is coated with a thin stream of hot water before applying shaving cream. Allow the cream a few minutes to settle in. Use a sharp, single blade razor; double and triple blades cut your beard too short and may cause ingrown hairs. Shave in the direction of the hair growth and don't pull on your skin or press into it with the razor. Avoid shaving the same area with multiple strokes. Rinse with cold water, not hot. A moisturizing aftershave cream can help soothe irritation caused by shaving. If you use an electric razor, apply a preshave lotion to soften your whiskers and help the shaver glide across your face. It will also lessen the irritation and burn that comes with electric shaving.
NUTRITION
A nutritious diet helps keep your skin healthy. Fruit and vegetables contain antioxidants that can retard skin damage. Do your best to steer clear of greasy, fried food, which is not good for your skin or any other part of your body. High-quality protein also supports your skin health. Drink plenty of water every day. Your body's cells are made up of primarily of water, so it's logical to keep yourself hydrated. If you drink alcohol, try to limit yourself. Overindulging takes a toll on your entire body, including your skin.
LIFESTYLE
Exercise does more than simply get your heart rate up. It clears your pores, increases your metabolism and makes you feel better about yourself. Sweating allows your body to cleanse itself. If you smoke, stop. Smoking accelerates skin aging and can lead to premature wrinkles.
