Cincinnati is Ohio's third largest city, behind Columbus and Cleveland. While perhaps best known as an inland, industry-driven community, Cincinnati is also a bustling, cultural hub, with plenty of daytime events and activities to satisfy a variety of personalities--and a similarly diverse, exciting nightlife as well.
River Cruises
Cincinnati lies just north of the Ohio River, a perfect waterway for taking an evening cruise. While you can take your own boat, or rent one, and travel down the river, another option is to book a reservation aboard a river cruise ship. Ships offer different theme-dinners on different nights. For example, the BB Riverboats river cruise company offers a Thursday-night tropical dinner cruise, which features island-inspired drinks, food and music; and a Sunday-night Dixieland jazz dinner, featuring a band playing a unique blend of Southern music and jazz.
See the Stars
The Cincinnati Observatory offers free telescope viewings and lectures on most Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the year. In addition, on one Saturday night per month, the observatory is open for public stargazing. Alternatively, check out the stars of Cincinnati's local theater-scene at a Playhouse in the Park performance. These evening performances go on all summer long at the Marx Theatre and the Thompson Shelterhouse.
The Bar Scene
If you're into jazz and martinis, head to the Bar at the Palm Court, where you can listen to a jazz ensemble every weekend night, and bask in the elegant, marble-filled interior. For a more casual environment, try Rhino's Bar, where there are weekday singer-songwriter nights and plenty of TVs to watch sports on.
Club Scene
Cincinnati has an extensive club scene. The fashion-savvy traveler will likely enjoy the exclusive Red Cheetah, which has feline-patterned red walls, three separate bars and a well-dressed clientele. For a more casual club experience, try Comet, which is a popular Cincinnati hangout for local artists and musicians. The nightly music ranges from garage rock to bluegrass.
Sporting Events
Cincinnati is home to two professional sports teams: the Cincinnati Reds in the MLB (Major League Baseball) and the Cincinnati Bengals in the NFL (National Football League). Both teams feature evening home games throughout their seasons, which can sometimes stretch into the late hours of the night. Try catching a Reds game at the Great American Ball Park, or see the Bengals play at the Paul Brown Stadium.
