Kawasaki, commonly referred to as Kawies, is a popular manufacturer of off-road motocross bikes. Kawasaki began making motorcycle engines in the late 1950s. In 1960, Kawasaki released its first motocross bike, a 125cc two-stroke cycle. Since then, Kawasaki has been a leader in production of high-end motorcycle engines. The reputation of the Kawasaki motocross bikes brought on increased popularity. Kawie motocross bikes have been ridden in motocross championships at all levels of racing. Kawies can be found at almost every motocross park.
KX 65
The Kawie KX 65 is a two-stroke mini motocross racer designed for young motocross riders. The KX 65 has a 64.7cc liquid-cooled engine and weighs about 132 lbs. The bike has a baseline horsepower of 16 and can reach a top speed of 50 to 60 mph. Kawasaki redesigned the 2011 KX 65 with major adjustments to suspension and steering.
KX 85
The Kawie KX 85 is a mini motocross bike designed for youth and young teens riders. The KX 85 has an 84cc two-stroke engine that weighs 152 lbs. The KX 85 stands 4 inches higher and is 9 inches longer than the KX 65. This bike has produced more youth national champions than any other motorcycle manufacturer. The latest version of the Kawie 85 has strong midrange power.
KX 100
The Kawie 100 is the transition motorcycle from mini bike to big bike. Riders who are too big for the 85 or too old for racing the mini ranks use the KX 100 as an intermediary step to the big bikes. The Kawie 100 is slightly longer and higher than the KX 85 and has slightly bigger wheels. The KX 100 is a 99cc two-stroke bike, which supports nearly 30 horsepower. The 100cc bike was not manufactured in 2010.
KX 250
The Kawie 250F bike is seen in adult and professional riding. Unlike the smaller bikes, the 250F is a four-stroke, fuel-injected bike. The 250 dirt bikes were once primarily two-stroke engines, but the current four-stroke version has broad power range, steady torque allowing for smooth yet powerful riding, unlike the former, snappy two-stroke engine. The KX 250F has about 35 horsepower, and weighs around 235 lbs. The KX 250F has more low range power than its five major competitors.
KX 450F
The biggest and most powerful bike in the Kawasaki lineup is the 450F. Most professional riders ride the 450F dirt bikes. Current 2010 motocross champion Chad Reed rides Team Kawasaki's 450F. This does not mean the bike is exclusive to professional riders. Novice and amateur riders can purchase and ride a 450F. The 450F is a four-stroke fuel-injected engine that has strong torque and broad power. Secondary to engine size, the 450F is slightly heavier than the 250F. The Kawie 450F produces more than 52 horsepower.
