As anyone who has ever experienced hair loss can tell you, the process of increasing the speed of hair growth is tedious and inconsistent. Despite what advertising campaigns would have you believe, stimulating hair growth requires a multi-pronged approach that includes scalp treatments as well as full-body health. According to the American Hair Loss Association, the average human scalp creates new hair at a rate of half an inch each month. Anyone seeking to push beyond that mark and regrow their hair faster must look to adopting some of the lifestyle habits linked to increased hair production such as: adequate sleep, consistent exercise and a high-fiber, low-fat diet. With patience, dedication and an eye for detail, practically anyone can experience visible hair growth results within two to three months.
Step 1
Cut the split ends of your hair by locating the frayed and damaged tips of your hair strands in the mirror. Using the scissors and mirror, cut ½ to 2 inches as needed, being careful to keep your hair even. Contact a friend or hair stylist to complete the job if needed.
Step 2
Wash your hair on a daily basis and completely rinse the shampoo from your hair before adding 1 to 3 Tbsp. of hair conditioner. Ensure that all of your hair is wet before applying the conditioner to your hair and scalp. Gently massage your scalp for three to five minutes under the water in order to promote circulation to the hair follicles.
Step 3
Rinse out the conditioner completely and begin combing your scalp with the pronged hairbrush in a circular motion. Rub the prongs along your scalp for an additional three to five minutes, emphasizing the areas of your hair that may be thinner or more bald. Make sure you are applying enough pressure to feel the prongs through your hair.
Step 4
Lay on a bed or sofa so that your head hangs off one side of the surface. Hold your head upside down so that your hair falls straight down for 30 to 60 seconds in order to stimulate the hair follicles to increase growth. Repeat two to three times throughout the day as comfortable.
Step 5
Create a list of all the foods and beverages you consume on a daily basis with a pencil and paper. Consult the nutritional facts of the foods in your pantry to locate the foods which are high in vitamins B, C and E, as well as beta carotene and magnesium--important compounds in strengthening and promoting hair growth. Increase your intake of low-fat, high-fiber foods that include these vitamins and minerals, such as whole grains, fruit and leafy greens.
Tips and Warnings
- Stay away from products and ointments that include harsh ingredients that may be harmful to your hair or irritate your skin. Carefully research any hair-growing product before purchasing and always attempt these natural hair-stimulation methods before resorting to chemicals.
