Expensive eye creams, prescription lotions and chemical peels may seem like your best bet for fighting the fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes. But those seeking to find a home remedy for crow's feet will find alternatives around the house and at the supermarket. Ask your doctor before attempting even "all natural" oral or topical remedies, and be especially careful not to get any topical treatments in your eyes.
Vitamin E capsules
Natural beauty author Jeanne Rose suggests piercing a 500mg Vitamin E capsule with a clean needle to release the liquid inside. Gently massage the liquid around the eye area; one capsule releases about the amount needed to treat crow's feet and fine lines.
Olive Oil
Olive oil is rich not only in Vitamin E, but in antioxidant polyphenols and anti-inflammatory oleocanthal, notes the home remedy web site Grannymed.com. Because it is high in monosaturated fat, olive oil adds needed fatty acids to the skin. Olive oil may be one of the most ancient anti-wrinkle remedies, notes Grannymed.com; even King Tut reportedly used it. To apply it to your problem crow's feet, gently massage it around the eye area before going to bed. To really make the skin receptive to olive oils' therapeutic properties, steam your face for at least five minutes before applying olive oil to the still-damp skin.
Egg White
While its effects aren't as long-lasting as alpha-hydroxy creams, an egg white treatment temporarily improves the appearance of crow's feet by hydrating the skin and flattening out the lines, notes author Doug Dollemore in "The Doctors Book of Home Remedies for Seniors." Beat the egg white and apply to the delicate skin around your eyes as well as the rest of your face, if desired. Leave on for 15 minutes, rinse and gently pat dry.
"Old School" Hemorrhoid Cream
One well-known hemorrhoid cream contains a compound called Live Yeast Cell Derivative, or LYCD, legendary for helping de-puff eyes and smooth eye wrinkles. The hemorrhoid cream trick appears in several home remedy websites and "beauty secrets" books. These days, the version of the cream sold in the United States no longer contains LYCD, but you can find the original formula online or in Canada. The U.S. version is still considered a home remedy for dark circles and puffy eyes due to the vasoconstrictor agent it now contains.
Diet
Several foods contain vitamins associated with preventing or lessening facial wrinkles. Many of the same vitamins dermatologists advise applying to your face in topical form can also be helpful when included in your diet, notes the book "Prevention's Healing with Vitamins." Ask your doctor about vitamin supplements, and boost the vitamin content of your diet. Vitamin C helps to build collagen. Consume more orange juice, citrus fruits, broccoli, red peppers and brussels sprouts. Vitamin E helps to minimize sun damage. Foods rich in this vitamin include sunflower seeds, wheat germ and spinach. The mineral selenium works much the same as Vitamin E when it comes to helping protect the skin against sun damage. Foods rich in selenium include tuna, onions, broccoli and garlic.
