Acne scarring comes in many forms, from individual "ice-pick" or "boxcar" scars named for their shape to "rolling" scars that give skin a wavelike appearance. These depressed scars can get worse with age. Acne can even leave behind discolored spots on the skin that will eventually heal over a year or longer. Home remedies can aid in the blending away of acne scarring, and for any scar treatment it is important to consistently apply the treatment, giving the scar time to heal.

Lemon and Lime Juice

The acidic nature of lemon and lime juice contains bleaching properties to aid in fading scar discolorations. Squeeze fresh juice from either fruit then apply the juice with a cotton ball directly to the scar. Leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing. The American Chronicle notes you should take care when exposing skin treated with lemon to the sun as the treatment can leave the area more susceptible to burning. The sun can also darken spots you are trying to lighten.

Mask

There are several face masks that can aid in the fading of scars and provide your skin with nutrients. Acne Scar Treatments recommends using a mixture of one part sour cream, one part yogurt, 1 tbsp. oatmeal and a couple of drops of lemon juice. Apply the mixture gently to the skin using your fingers and leave it on for 10 to 15 minutes before rinsing off. Another popular mask is mixing sandalwood and rosewater until a paste is formed. Leave this mask on for at least 30 minutes or all night if you are comfortable doing so.

Leaves

The leaves of plants or even the extract of leaves from some plants contain properties that aid in the healing of scars. Margosa leaves and mint leaves are two examples of leaves used to treat scars. To use, wash a bunch of the fresh leaves and place in muslin or other porous cloth. Crush the leaves, wrap them in the cloth and then extract the juice by squeezing the leaves into a bowl. Using a cotton ball, apply the extract gently upon the scar tissue and leave on. Apply up to three times daily.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a natural antioxidant used in many scar and skin-conditioning treatments. It is quite appropriate to purchase vitamin E in capsule form, and then poke the capsule to access the oil within, applying directly to the scar tissue. Vitamin E is absorbed into the skin, enabling it to heal from the base of the scar up.
