Types of Girls Lacrosse Sticks

Girls' youth lacrosse is divided into three levels: A, B and C. Level A is the most advanced and requires girls to use a women's regulation stick, also known as the crosse. Women's lacrosse sticks come in one length and can be cut down to be the appropriate length for your position. All sticks must be between 35.5 and 43.25 inches. The head of the crosse is between 7 inches and 9 inches wide. The stick materials and heads vary, and the right one for you may depend on your experience or position and even your budget.

Wooden Shaft

Originally the entire lacrosse stick was made of wood, but nowadays a stick with a wooden shaft is available. Women are likely to play with a wooden stick, and all wooden sticks are legal. These sticks have not changed significantly since the sport's beginning and have set the standard. With lighter-weight materials now available, the wooden stick may not be as popular as they once were. Look to manufacturers CranBarry, Hattersleys or Patterson to choose your wooden crosse.

Aluminum Shaft

The aluminum shaft lacrosse stick is durable and a good option for beginners. The aluminum shaft is lighter than wood but is still not as light as other materials. Warm gloves with a good grip may be required for a comfortable hold on this stick in colder temperatures.

Alloy Shaft

Alloy shafts are a mix of aluminum and titanium to create an even lighter stick option. The shaft is also made into a variety of geometrical shapes, expanding your allow options. Even though lightweight, the alloy shaft maintains its strength and is a good option for more advanced players.

Composite Shaft

If you have more money to spend and want the best, choose the composite shaft. The composite material does not get affected by temperature, so, therefore, you will not experience a hot or cold stick that normally affects your grip. They are also made with a textured surface, making them a better option when playing in the rain. The composite stick is lightweight and very strong.

Molded Heads

A girl's lacrosse stick usually has a molded head. The nonoffset, closed-sidewall head is a good choice for beginners to assist with learning catching and throwing techniques. Offset and open sidewalls also exist for the more advanced player. Whichever lacrosse stick is right for you, you will be able to search among dozens of manufacturers for the right style and price.
