Seattle, Washington, has many indoor and outdoor activities for kids. With a world-class zoo, professional sport teams and a temperate climate, fun activities are available year-round. The waterfront provides outdoor activities, and the Seattle Center houses many kid-friendly spots. Seattle is also home to many coffee shops, where children are not excluded. They can drink hot cocoa on a cold day or frozen fruit drinks in summer.

Catch a Game

The Seattle Mariner's baseball team plays in Safeco Field from April through September. Inexpensive seats are available, but wandering the different snack bars and activity areas can pass the time as well. Safeco Field has a retractable roof, so baseball is played rain or shine.
Many of the games offer free giveaways, such as bobbleheads of the famous players, to the first fans to arrive. On some occasions, children are invited onto the field before the game. This is a popular summer activity for children of all ages.

See the Animals

The Woodland Park Zoo is a world-class zoo located in the Wallingford area of Seattle, near Green Lake. The zoo offers animals housed in natural habitats, such as an African savanna. The zoo also houses elephants, penguins, raptors, butterflies, silverback gorillas and a farm petting zoo. A food court offers snacks for hungry hikers.

Walk in the Park

Green Lake Park is a year-round playground, with a 2.9-mile circular track for walkers, hikers, bikers, fishermen or skaters year-round. Many dog walkers enjoy the lake as well.
In summer, two beaches provide access for swimming, and paddle boats are available for rent. Boats without motors can be launched from the various docks and launch areas, including canoes, kayaks or rubber inflatables.
Restaurants around the lake cater to walkers, offering fish and chips and other fast-food choices. Picnic areas are arranged around the lake as well.

Fun Activities

The Seattle Children's Museum offers hands on activities for children and has different exhibits year-round. The museum is a popular spot on rainy Seattle days. It is located in the Seattle Center, under the Space Needle.

View From Above

Children of all ages enjoy the elevator ride to the top of the Space Needle. At the top, a restaurant revolves and serves dinner and some lunches. The view from the observation deck is best on a clear day, but even on a typical, rainy Seattle day, the view is interesting. Vendors sell snack food in the amusement park area at the foot of the Needle.
