Caused by minor muscle contractions, muscle twitches and spasms are a common side effect of diet deficiency and caffeine overdose. While there are a number of sedative and antispasmodic medicines on the market, skullcap is a natural nerve tonic that can both relieve and nourish the nervous system. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, skullcap has more than 200 years of use as a mild relaxant and anti-convulsion remedy and can often be combined with other herbs like valerian to reduce symptoms such as muscle twitches. By taking a regular safe dosage of skullcap and reducing your intake of stimulants, you can experience quick results in decreased muscle twitching. Please consult your physician before attempting naturopathic remedies at home.
Step 1
Unscrew the dropper lid on the skullcap tincture and squeeze the rubber dropper. Remove the glass tube from the tincture and place the end of the tube immediately above your tongue. Squeeze the rubber dropper slowly until half a dropper's worth (80 to 120 drops) of skullcap tincture is in your mouth before swallowing. Take two more servings of equal dose throughout the day.
Step 2
Set one cup of water to boil in the kettle. Insert 1 tsp. of dried skullcap loose herb into a mesh tea ball and place it into a clean coffee cup or mug.
Step 3
Pour one cup of the boiling water into the coffee cup while ensuring that the mesh tea ball remains under the surface. Let steep for 20 to 30 minutes.
Step 4
Remove the mesh tea ball from the coffee cup and slowly drink the liquid. Repeat two more times throughout the day until you have consumed roughly three cups of skullcap tea.
Step 5
Continue the daily skullcap regimen for as long as symptoms exist. If the symptoms continue for a week or longer, add 1 tsp. of dried valerian loose herb to your daily skullcap tea.
