With an average snowfall of more than 400 inches and numerous ski resorts, the Lake Tahoe area offers an array of winter activities. In addition to skiing, the area features restaurants, casinos, day spas, luxury hotels and public recreation facilities. Skiing and Snowboarding
Seven ski resorts are situated in South Lake Tahoe with another 12 Alpine ski resorts in North Lake Tahoe, providing a wide selection of skiing and snowboarding slopes.
Resorts offer groomed runs or soft powder as well as ski-in, ski-out accommodations, winter vacation packages, kid's camps, private instruction and group lessons.
From beginners to experts, everyone is welcome to enjoy the numerous trails at Lake Tahoe ski resorts, including Heavenly Valley, Sugar Bowl, Squaw Valley, Mt. Rose and Kirkwood.
Other Winter Sports
Spend an afternoon playing with your kids or reliving fond childhood memories at one of the Lake Tahoe ice-skating rinks and sledding hills. The South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Ice Arena is located adjacent to the recreation complex and provides a full-service skating arena with daily ice-skating as well as lessons, hockey camps, a cafe, a video arcade, party rooms and equipment rentals.
The Tahoe City Snow Play Area on Highway 89 South offers a gentle slope for playing and sledding, but visitors must bring their own equipment. Many resorts around Lake Tahoe feature complimentary use of skates, saucers and tubes and might also offer dog sledding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing tours.
Spa and Fitness
After a long day of winter sports, pamper yourself with a relaxing and rejuvenating spa experience. The public pools have designated hours for general swimming, lap swimming for different age groups, lessons or water aerobics, so visitors should check a daily calendar on the official website or call the facility to confirm the schedule.
Sightseeing Tours
Visitors can explore the area on a self-guided tour or join one of the many organized tours around Lake Tahoe. Sightseeing bus tours usually include an informative narrative provided by a local guide as well as stops at several scenic locations to allow participants time to snap some photos.
