It has been said that a winning smile can brighten a room. Many people are therefore interested in having a bright white set of teeth to make their smile more radiant. There are many ways to achieve this, ranging from things to do in your home to procedures performed by your dentist. Depending on how much you want to spend, there are options available to anyone who wants whiter teeth.

Whitening Toothpaste

The simplest and least expensive whitening choice is whitening toothpaste. The toothpastes usually work using a mild abrasive to scrub stains from enamel.

Adhesive Strips

Other easy but likely more expensive options include adhesive strips applied to the teeth. These strips are coated with whitening or bleaching paste or gel, which is applied to the teeth in the form of a sticky strip.

Laser Whitening

More advanced and costly dentist office procedures include laser whitening, which yields even better results because the gel used is activated by a laser, giving quicker results.

Veneers and Porcelains

Veneers or porcelains are synthetic teeth custom-made to fit over the natural tooth. These give significant improvement if teeth are badly discolored or damaged. Such office procedures usually give better results but may be cost prohibitive because dental insurance often does not cover cosmetic procedures.

Supervised Bleaching

In the dentists office, procedures involving stronger chemical agents can be used, often with a paint-on technique or a dental tray. The substances used in supervised bleaching may be made of any number of things, from high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide to acids.
