Some of the most effective anti-wrinkle treatments involve expensive injections and painful cosmetic surgeries available only through your dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon. That doesn't mean you can't condition and improve the appearance of wrinkles using over-the-counter wrinkle creams. Some of the best drugstore and department store treatments, as reviewed and selected by skin care experts, can improve the tone and firmness of your skin for less wrinkles without the pain and cost of prescription treatments.
Arbonne NutriMinC RE9 REversing Gelee Transforming Lift
Anti-aging skin care expert Paula Begoun, in her review book "Don't Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me," rated Arbonne's lifting cream highly on her three-tiered rating scale. She says it "contains many beneficial ingredients that ... allow skin to make collagen." Extra collagen production may help firm your skin and improve the appearance of wrinkles. Its active ingredients include the chemical exfoliant known as hyaluronic acid, which helps resurface the skin, and wheat germ extract to help feed and nourish the skin.
SkinMedica TNS Line Refine
For deep wrinkles, try SkinMedica's over-the-counter line-refining treatment, rated by InStyle magazine's beauty editors as one of the best line fillers on the market. Reviewing the treatment for the magazine, dermatologist Fran Cook-Bolden says it effectively reduces the appearance of deep, severe wrinkles. Editors loved its use of a muscle relaxant and hyaluronic acid for a temporary effect that's similar to Botox.
Aubrey Organics Collagen TCM Therapeutic Cream Moisturizer
Aubrey Organics' collagen moisturizing cream provides 100 percent soluble collagen to your skin's surface, according to Begoun. These proteins may help to both moisturize and firm up your skin for less wrinkles. It also includes glycerin derived from vegetables, plus coconut cream to moisturize your skin; aloe vera to soothe away inflammation that may make your wrinkles look worse; and antioxidants such as vitamin C to help reduce the appearance of new wrinkles.
Olay Pro-X Deep Wrinkle Treatment
You don't need to break your bank account on over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams, thanks to Olay's deep wrinkle treatment, which InStyle magazine's editors say is the best inexpensive wrinkle treatment. Reviewing the product for the magazine, Dr. Howard Sobel says that it "smooths wrinkles" like crow's-feet around your eyes. Its active ingredients, niacinamide and retinol, have a long history of use as anti-wrinkle agents.
