Long, full eyelashes can be a desirable asset. Some people are genetically blessed with long and gorgeous eyelashes. Unfortunately, many others are not. It is a common myth that trimming the tips of your eyelashes will cause them to grow longer and fuller. However, there still are some effective ways to stimulate the growth of your eyelashes.
Diet and Exercise
The website Make Eyelashes Grow urges a healthy diet and consistent exercise regimen to bolster the length and thickness of eyelashes. Taking multivitamins can help ensure proper nourishment. The healthier you are, the quicker your eyelashes will grow.
Consistently Remove Mascara
To grow healthy and luscious eyelashes, be sure to remove your mascara every night before going to bed. First, wash the eyes and face with lukewarm water to eliminate any excess mascara. Next, gently dry any remaining moisture with a soft facial tissue. Then apply a liberal amount of baby shampoo onto your eyelashes and allow it to remain there for 20 to 30 seconds, then rinse to remove any remaining residue.
Natural Oils
The website Green Herbal Remedies recommends the regular use of vitamin E oil, olive oil, castor oil, sweet almond oil and petroleum jelly to further develop eyelashes. These oils are known to lengthen eyelashes and make them shinier before they naturally shed. Apply one of these oils onto the upper eyelids until they are entirely covered at nighttime. Additionally, apply a thin coat of oil onto your eyelashes exactly as you would with mascara. Be certain not to allow any of the oil to enter your eyes. By consistently applying one of these oils, improvements to your eyelashes should be noticed within eight weeks.
Prescription
According to ABC News, in December 2008 the FDA approved a new prescription drug called Latisse designed to make eyelashes grow longer. Latisse comes from the glaucoma drug Lumigan and they both contain the active ingredient bimatoprost, which is known to lower eye pressure. Latisse is reportedly so effective that some users may need to actually trim their eyelashes after only six to eight weeks. Maximum results of Latisse will happen after four months. A 30-day supply of Latisse is available for $120.
