Boston's great shopping, restaurants and cultural centers make it one of the most popular tourist destinations in the U.S. While fine retailers and dining are great for the city's adult visitors, the city also offers a wide variety of educational centers and activities for families and children. Whether on land or at sea, no matter what the season, Boston has something for kids of all ages and their parents to enjoy.

Boston Children's Museum

Open year round, Boston's Children's Museum is houses a wide variety of entertaining and educational exhibitions. Interactive exhibits include the Arthur and Friends imagination and reading center, the Science Playground and the Construction Zone. The museum is also home to a rotating schedule of visitor programs, teacher resources and early childhood education exhibits.

New England Aquarium

Whale watches, dolphin shows and an IMAX theater are just some of the family friendly activities available at the New England Aquarium. Founded in 1969, the aquarium combines entertainment and education and with more than 1.6 million visitors annually, is one of the city's most popular tourist destinations. Whale watch trips to the coast off Boston are offered seasonally, while a rotating schedule of exhibits is offered throughout the year.

Fenway Park

No trip to Boston is complete without a visit to Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. While the team plays home games from April to October each year, the stadium is open for interactive tours year round. Visit the locker room and go inside the famous Green Monster. Children can even have their photo taken with the Red Sox mascot, Wally.

Playgrounds

Boston is home to several hundred playgrounds. Each Boston neighborhood is home to its own distinct play lot, many of which feature basketball and kickball courts, swings and slides. The playground at the Frog Pond in Boston Common is home to several swings, two see-saws as well as four tennis courts.

Bike Paths

The Boston Esplanade has six miles of riverfront bike paths that border the Charles River and offer sprawling views of neighboring Cambridge. Families can stop for lunch at one of two concession stands that are open seasonally or pack a picnic lunch to enjoy under a tree, at one of the park's granite landings or nearly 300 benches.
