Ecology Trail

Head to San Francisco's Ecology Trail, which is a blend of a park, garden and nature trail, for an active day that will provide you with great views of San Francisco's waterfront. This 1.4-mile-long footpath through San Francisco's Presidio leads to Inspiration Point, a stone plaza dedicated to immigrants entering the United States. This is an ideal location to view Alcatraz Island, Marin Headlands, the Pacific Ocean and Point Reyes National Seashore. At Inspiration Point there is a picnic area, ideal to enjoy a meal while overlooking the coastal bluffs and the local beaches.

Walking Tour

Spend a day touring Clement Street, which is located in San Francisco's inner Richmond District. Here you will find unique restaurants, such as Le Soleil Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine, art galleries and museums, such as the Legion of Honor, and the biggest used-book store in the city, Green Apple.

Biking

When in San Francisco, consider renting a bike for the day and see many of the city's famous sites on two wheels. One of the most memorable sites to see via bike is the Golden Gate Bridge. Follow the bike path on the west side of the bridge, and head along Highway 101 over this famous landmark. When you get to the other side, you will be in Sausalito. Sausalito has been described as a seaside French town that has been transported to California. Consider locking up your bikes and wandering the town for a few hours. Coit Tower

Atop Telegraph Hill is the Coit Tower, which was built in 1933 in Pioneer Park. The Coit Tower is popular with tourists and locals alike because of the amazing views it offers of the city and the surrounding bay. Sites that can be seen from Coit Tower include Alcatraz, Russian Hill, Pier 39, the Golden Gate Bridge, Lombard Street and Nob Hill. A great way to break a sweat and enjoy these magnificent views of the city is by heading up the famous Filbert Steps. Take this steep staircase through stunning gardens until you reach the top. The Coit Tower also features an art-deco tower, which includes several murals completed by students of the California School of Fine Arts.

Farmer's Market

According to "Travel and Leisure" magazine, San Francisco is the No. 7 city in the United States for farmers markets. The Ferry Plaza Farmer's Market, located around the Ferry Building on Saturdays, has some 85 local vendors and growers selling both standard produce and unusual finds. Expect to find ingredients like Meyer lemons, persimmons, squash blossoms and Mission figs. In addition to the produce, guests can find meats and cheeses at the market.
