Things to Do in Seattle When It's Sunny

Seattle is known for rainy days and delicious lattes. On the days that the weather decides to cooperate Seattle bursts alive with outdoor recreation, gatherings at the parks and stunning views of the Puget Sound and Cascade mountains. Singles, couples or families can enjoy sunny Seattle activities on land or water.

Parks

Seattle feature numerous parks within the city limits. Gas Works Park converted from industrial use to a city park in 1975. Known for its stunning skyline view of the city, strong wind and large hill Gas Works Park is popular amongst kite fliers. Volunteer Park, located in Capitol Hill, is known for the great view of the space needle and Cascade mountains. Containing the historic Water Tower observation deck and the Seattle Asian Art Museum, this park features walking trails, tennis courts and a variety of plants.

Site-seeing

Skyline Seattle is a must see on sunny days. With the chance to see Mount Rainer, Olympic mountains and the Cascades mountains, this observation is best viewed from the top of the Space Needle. Taking 41 seconds to get to the observation deck to see a 360 degree panoramic view of the city. Viewers can use telescopes to spot a certain location or enjoy wine at the observation deck's restaurant which was named "Restaurant of the Year" by the Washington Wine Commission.

Harbour Cruise

Argosy Cruises has operated year round on Seattle's Harbour since 1949. Departing from Pier 55, this one-hour cruise features a scenic skyline view of the city, Cascade mountains and Olympics. With the chance to see seals, Argosy provides historical knowledge on important buildings and aspects of the city. Dining cruises, themed cruises and sightseeing tours are also available with Argosy Cruiseline.

Outdoor Fitness

Walking Seattle is an effective way to view city parks and neighborhoods while staying active. The 9-acre waterfront park, Olympic Sculpture Park, features a variety of sculptures overlooking the Puget Sound. During the summer months, free yoga classes, social dancing and public walking tours. This is part of the "Get out, Summer at S.A.M." which also features a Thursday Farmers Market at the OSP.

Biking

Biking on a sunny day allows for a safe ride as well as scenic rides within the city and surrounding areas. According to Bicycling Magazine, Seattle is one of the Top 5 cities to bike in the United States. City meets nature through 120 miles of street bike lanes, 45 miles of shared path and 120 miles of signed bike routes. Helmets are recommended for riders. Major Trails include Burke-Gilman Trail, Chief Stealth Trail, Interurban Trail and Elliot Bay Trail.
