Typically, acne is caused by hormonal changes from pregnancy, starting or stopping birth control, and hormonal development during menopause or adolescence. While many people experience acne at some point, it can be embarrassing and uncomfortable. However, there are a few simple home remedies that can help to get rid of back and chest acne. These remedies have not been tested by the FDA for effectiveness, so talk to your doctor or dermatologist before trying them.
According to Jethro Kloss, author of “Back to Eden: The Classic Guide to Herbal Medicine, Natural Foods, and Home Remedies Since 1939,” toothpaste is a common home remedy for acne on the back, chest and face. According to Kloss, toothpaste works to dry out pimples caused by over-productive oil glands, which is often the case when pimples form on the back and chest. To use toothpaste on back and chest acne, apply a thin layer over the affected area and leave it on for about 30 minutes or until dry. Gently rinse the skin with cool water, but avoid washing with soap. Toothpaste can be applied every day as long as it does not irritate your skin.
Cinnamon Powder and Lemon Juice
According to Melanie A. Sachs, author of “Ayurvedic Beauty Care,” the application of cinnamon powder and freshly squeezed, natural lemon juice is a common home remedy for back, chest and facial acne in Ayurvedic medicine. To use cinnamon powder and lemon juice, combine 3 tbsp. freshly squeezed or natural lemon juice with 1 tbsp. cinnamon powder in a small bowl and mix thoroughly. Spread a thin layer over the affected area with a brush or clean fingertips, and leave the mixture on for approximately 60 minutes before rinsing the skin with cool water. Cinnamon powder and lemon juice can be used on a daily basis unless irritation occurs.
Radish Seeds, Honey and Milk
A mixture of radish seeds, honey and milk is a regularly used home remedy for back and chest acne as well as blackheads in Ayurvedic medicine, according to Melanie A. Sachs, author of “Ayurvedic Beauty Care.” To use radish seeds, honey and milk on the skin, blend 1 tbsp. radish seeds with 1 tbsp. honey and 1 tbsp. milk in a blender until it becomes a smooth paste. Apply a thick layer of the paste to the skin, and leave it on for up to two hours before rinsing with cool water and applying your regular moisturizer. The mixture of radish seeds, honey and milk will keep in the refrigerator for about five days in a container with a tight-fitting lid, and it can be applied warm or cold on a daily basis.
