Picking a treadmill for use at home is becoming increasingly difficult because more and more models are being developed with longer lists of features. Certain factors to consider when picking a treadmill for your home are price, warranty, whether you will be walking or running on the treadmill, power of the motor and any special features that are particularly important to you, like an iPod dock or TV unit on the console.

Sole F80

The Sole treadmill company makes some of the best home units on the market, according to the Consumer Search website. The Sole F80 comes with a lifetime warranty for the motor, deck and frame; five years for electronics, belt, rollers and labor; and two years in-home service. The only negative for this particular unit is that the belt is only 55 inches long, which is a little short for taller runners. However, the company makes a larger unit, the F85 which is 60 inches long, which should be a better length for the taller runners.

NordicTrack Commercial 1750

The NordicTrack commercial 1750 is listed as the best treadmill under $1,500 (as of 2010), according to the Treadmill Review website. It has a 3.5-horsepower motor, which is the strongest motor available at this price point. The motor and frame have a lifetime warranty, while the parts have a five-year warranty and the service, a two-year warranty. The deck is a full 60 inches, making this suitable for taller walkers and runners. Maybe the best feature of this unit is the iFit Live. The iFit Live connects your treadmill to the Internet, allowing you to run trails across the globe. You can even download customized workout programs or even race against friends.

Landice L7 Cardio Trainer

For the serious runners the Landice L7 Cardio Trainer rates well amongst consumers, according to the Consumer Search website, due to its powerful 4-horsepower motor and sturdy frame designed for daily running. The L7 Cardio Trainer comes with a lifetime warranty on frame, parts, wear items and one year for labor, though users suggest reading the fine print to make sure they don't void any of the warranty policies. This unit does not come with a great deal of features, though the one it does have is a wireless heart rate monitor.
