New York City is a large metropolis with a lot of activities, events and potential for fun. If you are alone in the big city, don't fret--New York has something for everyone. There are a variety of activities you can do solo in NYC that can make for an interesting day on the town.

Metropolitan Museum of Art

Head over to the Metropolitan Museum of Art for a day touring art exhibits. The Met or MMA, as it's commonly called, houses a vast array of artworks that have traveled the world for you to enjoy. Learn about different periods of art, and enjoy current artists as well. Join a group tour for a guided experience, or walk around the huge museum on your own and learn about great works of art. Tickets range from $10 for students to $20 for adults.

American Museum of Natural History

If you are a science fan or you love nature, take a trip to the American Museum of Natural History. This museum boasts a number of exhibits, including one on space and space exploration, an IMAX theater, a butterfly exhibit and much more for the science buff in you. Prices for the museum vary depending on what exhibit you want to see and when you go, but general admission runs between $9 and $16.

Relax at a Spa

For a relaxing day by yourself, head to one of the many luxurious spas that New York City has to offer. If you are staying in a hotel, it may have spa services available. Eden Day Spa is a popular spa on Broadway. It covers a sprawling 8,000 square feet, making it one of New York's biggest spas. You can treat yourself to a Swedish massage, organic facial, body wraps, manicures, pedicures and a variety of other treatments. There are also various packages you can try for all-day relaxation, and these come with a nutritious lunch to get you through the day.

Bike It

Fill a sightseeing day with exercise by renting a bike or taking a bike tour. Tour Central Park and explore the many areas the park has to offer, or go out on your own throughout the city. Ride along Fifth Avenue, and enjoy the shopping as you go. Bike alongside the Hudson River, or bike across the Brooklyn Bridge for some great views of the city skyline. Only opt to go out on your own if you are an experienced bike rider, as the streets can get hectic. If you aren't very experienced, try taking a guided tour instead.

Times Square

Head to Times Square and make a day of it on your own. Times Square has a variety of shops to splurge in, and restaurants offer breakfast, lunch or dinner. Dine at the popular Planet Hollywood New York, and enjoy its theatrical displays, or dine in the screening room. Check out some of the shows on Broadway, or head to Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum in Times Square to see the different figures and how they are made. There are many television studios in Times Square. You can take a studio tour and see the magic of television live.
