Miami is a large city in the southeastern region of Florida. It is the fourth largest urbanized area in America with a population of just over 5.2 million people. Miami is a popular vacation destination due to a large concentration of shopping centers, nightclubs and golf resorts. The city offers visitors several activities and things to do.
Visit South Beach
South Beach is a must-see for anyone visiting in the Miami-area. South Beach, or SoBe, encompasses about 23 blocks of nightclubs, resorts and shopping centers. During the day, you can sunbathe out on the beach or take a swim in the cool waters. Eat lunch at one of the many seafood or Cuban restaurants located along Ocean Avenue. At night, experience the nightlife Miami Beach has to offer at Opium Garden, Clevelander or Mac's Club Deuce.
Miami Children's Museum
Miami Children's Museum is a great place to spend the day if you're travelling with a family of young kids. The museum offers dozens of exhibits designed to teach and entertain your child. The interactive exhibits include a pet station, a safety zone, an ocean center, an art exhibit and a miniature park of the Everglades. Several of the exhibits are featured in different languages to accommodate foreign visitors as well. Everglades National Park
If you are an outdoor enthusiast, then the Florida Everglades would certainly interest you. The Everglades contains over 1.5 million acres of swamps, saw-grass prairies and sub-tropical jungles. The Everglades is home to 14 rare and endangered species, such as the American Crocodile and the Florida Panther. You can tour the Everglades on an airboat or, for the real adventurists, take a canoe and explore the primitive sections. You may even find evidence of Native American culture, such as totem poles and spear heads.
Deep Sea Fishing
Miami is home to several marinas that offer private fishing charters; there is Crandon Park, Haulover Park, Bayside Marketplace and the Miami Beach Marina. Many deep sea fishing tours provide everything you need, including rods and tackle. Keep in mind that according to Florida law, deep sea fishing requires that there be a captain on the boat.
Miami Metrozoo
Miami Metrozoo is one of the few free-range zoos in America; all of the exhibits are entirely cageless. The animals are housed in enclosures designed to simulate their natural environment. They are also grouped together with other animals that they live peacefully together with. Miami's warm climate is perfect for species from all over the world such as animals from Asia, Africa and Australia. The zoo also features several endangers species, such as the Golden Lion Tamarins from Brazil; less than 2,000 remain in the wild.
