Camping involves retreating to a relaxing atmosphere to enjoy the great outdoors. When planning your trip you will want to make sure that you don't forget anything or your trip could be less than satisfying---especially if there is no camp store nearby. Love the Outdoors suggests creating a list of what you will need on your camping trip based on where you will be staying, length of stay and temperature.
Shelter
Your main priority should be making sure you have adequate shelter for your trip. If camping in an RV most items are already available to you. You will have to make sure your dump tank, water tank, electrical system is in good and safe working order before leaving for your trip. LP gas tanks should be full, especially if you are planning a long stay. You may want an outdoor mat to keep excess dirt from reaching inside your camper.
Tenters will need to have a tent, tarp, stakes, hammer, outdoor carpeting, broom and rope for the basic essentials of setting up camp. All campers will want to have trash bags, rope, clothespins, fan, heater, battery powered radio, camping chairs, flashlights, lanterns, batteries and a fire extinguisher to make sure their shelter stays safe and efficient throughout their stay.
Bedding
Making sure you have the proper bedding is important for warmth and comfort. Whether you are in an RV bed or on the floor of a tent, proper padding and support will make your experience stress free. A foam mattress or rubber air mattress provides additional comfort in addition to blankets and sleeping bags. The Outdoor Eyes Website suggests choosing a sleeping bag that fits your camping experience by being comfortable and accommodating to the temperature and surroundings. An air pump should be packed with the mattress so it is forgotten. Sheets and pillows as well as extra blankets should be brought along in case it gets cold at night. Pack large utility bags for storage of soiled linens, washcloths and clothes.
Equipment and Supplies
Camping supplies should always include what you will be cooking or heating with. A tripod grill is a versatile camping equipment tool because it cooks food but also warms up water for bathing and cooking. So be sure to bring a kettle or a cast iron pot. Gas or charcoal grills provide instant heat for cooking but don't forget extra LP tanks, charcoal, matches and lighter fluid. The Family Camping Gear website states that white gas fuel burns hot and leaves minimal odor behind on food. This is an option for campers who use compact stoves such as Coleman table-top stoves. Pack a large cooler, thermos and water jug so items stay clean, or either warm or cold as needed. You may also want to pack an additional folding table for food prep and storage. Mixing bowls, kitchen utensils, napkins, plates, storage containers, dishpans, tongs, spatulas and aluminum foil are all must haves for any camping trip.
