Placing a child up for adoption is not an easy decision for the birth parents. As difficult as adoption is to consider, it provides benefits for the child, birth parents and adoptive parents. Choosing adoption is an emotional process that can have a significant impact, both immediately and long-term.

Child's Stability

Parents who wish to adopt must go through an involved process to be approved. The process ensures that the parents are prepared to raise the child in a stable, loving environment. The baby benefits from a positive home environment and becomes part of a family who is able to nurture him. The child is likely to have access to health care, quality education and other resources that may not have been available to him with his birth parents.

Fulfilling Parenting Dreams

While the adoption process is often full of emotional highs and lows, a successful adoption allows a couple to realize the dream of parenthood. Many couples choose adoption because of infertility. Adoption fulfills the couple's desire to become parents when there is no other option. The adoptive parents feel emotionally rewarded by being able to add a child to the family. If the adoptive parents are selected before the birth of the child, they are often able to be involved in prenatal visits and be at the hospital when the child is born. Adoptive parents benefit from the support of adoptive families.

Birth Mother Assistance

Despite the sacrifice birth parents make, they also receive benefits from the adoption process. Prenatal care and birth expenses are often covered for the birth mother, allowing her to get the care she might not otherwise be able to afford. Fees for legal expenses to complete the adoption are paid for the birth mother. Counseling, support groups and other resources to handle the emotions from the process are provided for the birth parents. Choosing adoption for the child gives the birth parents the comfort of knowing their baby will go to a loving home that can meet her needs. The selfless act brings great joy to the adoptive parents, which may comfort the birth mother. The birth parents are also able to pursue educational, career or other goals in life that would have been difficult when raising a baby.
