Deep Creek Lake is located in Garrett County, in the mountains of western Maryland. It is accessible to many recreational activities, and according to Deep Creek Lake State Park's website, it is Maryland's "largest man-made lake." Spend your vacation with family and friends at the freshwater lake in the Deep Creek Lake area or state park and enjoy a wealth of exciting indoor and outdoor recreational activities throughout the year.
Camping
Campgrounds in Deep Creek Lake State Park are open from May to September. Camp for a maximum of two weeks in one of 112 campsites including 26 sites with electric hookups; Bear Den, a three-sided camping unit; two mini-camper cabins; yurts; and group shelters for up to 75 people. All of the sites are located near heated restroom facilities with hot showers.
Minutes from Deep Creek Lake, you will find two pet-friendly campgrounds--Bumble Bee RV Park and Campground and Double G RV Park. Both campgrounds have RV sites with full hookups and fire rings, picnic tables, a bathhouse, camp stores and laundry facilities.
Interpretive Programs
Participate in Deep Creek Lake State Park's interpretive programs, which are led by a park naturalist. Learn about the park's historic, natural and cultural heritage though campfire programs, talks and hikes. Programs are scheduled throughout the year so make sure to check the park's bulletin boards at the Discovery Center for a list and schedule of programs.
Water Sports
Cool off on hot summer days with water activities such as swimming or boating. Swim along the lake's 1-mile shoreline during the summer when lifeguards are on duty. Enjoy sailing, kayaking, canoeing or Jet skiing on Deep Creek Lake. You will find local marinas where you can rent a boat or rent a dock. You can also launch your boat from the boat-launch facility, which is open most of the year when the weather permits, and enjoy fishing for trout, walleye, bass and yellow perch.
Picnics
Enjoy a day of leisure by having a picnic at Deep Creek Lake's waterfront area. Set the picnic table or lay a blanket on the ground and prepare a meal on the grill. Reserve a shelter where you can rest or watch as the kids play in the playground. Restrooms are located close by. Make sure, however, not to take your pets along as they are not allowed in the waterfront area or in the day-use area of the park.
Trails
Go for a hike or bike on one of Meadow Mountain's six trails that range from 0.2 miles to 5.5 miles. The trails are rated as easy, moderate and difficult depending on the terrain. While on the trail, view wildflowers and maybe even get a chance at viewing wildlife such as white-tailed deer, red-tailed hawk, ruffed grouse and timber rattlesnake. During the winter, trails may be used for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Purchase a travel guide in the park's Discovery Center, and if you wish, take your dog along on the trails.
