Fine lines, wrinkles, uneven complexion and dark circles under the eyes can add years to your appearance. Give your body the vitamins it needs to fight the signs of aging by incorporating them into your diet or using topical creams and ointments.
Vitamin A and Beta-Carotene
Your skin naturally secretes a yellowish liquid, called sebum, to keep it moisturized. In order to produce this essential secretion, your body needs vitamin A. Eating foods such as carrots, peaches and spinach provides your body with plenty of beta-carotene, which it stores and converts to vitamin A as needed. Topical creams and ointments containing retinoid, a vitamin A derivative, may reduce the appearance of wrinkles, even out splotchy skin tone and moisturize dry, rough skin, according the Mayo Clinic.
Vitamin B Complex
Pat Hyland of Discovery Health reports that B vitamins work to protect the skin. Perhaps the two most important B vitamins for healthy skin, biotin and niacin, increase blood circulation and nourish your skin. Eating plenty of oatmeal, eggs, rice and bananas will increase your intake of B vitamins. Topical creams containing niacin help to keep you moisturized, resulting in smoother, younger-looking skin.
Vitamins C and E
These powerful anti-oxidants reduce the effects of collagen-destroying free radicals in your environment and keep your skin looking taut and young. Vitamins C and E protect the skin and support cell membranes when used before sun exposure, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Rich sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits and dark green vegetables, and you can find plenty of vitamin E in soybeans, milk and leafy green vegetables. Using lotions or creams that contain both vitamins C and E may reduce the appearance of fine lines and protect your skin from sun damage.
Vitamin K
While vitamin K does not directly affect the health of your skin, it does reduce blood clotting and bruising. Eye creams containing a combination of vitamins A and K may reduce the appearance of dark circles under your eyes. Without those bags, you'll look less tired and more youthful.
