Hocking Hills can be found in the southeastern part of Ohio and is a scenic wonderland of beauty with soaring cliffs, hidden trails, caves and cascading waterfalls. The area offers outdoor enthusiasts many opportunities for recreation, such as hiking, mountain biking, bird watching, white water rafting, camping, air tours, horseback riding, fishing and hunting. Hocking Hills is also home to the popular Hocking Hills State Park with a variety of unique attractions.
Parks
Parks can be a great way to spend time and offer plenty of outdoor recreation. Hocking Hills is home to a variety of parks, such as Hocking Hills State Park. This picturesque area contains attractions, such Ash Cave, Cantwell Cliffs, Cedar Falls and Lake Logan. Visitors can enjoy activities, such as hiking, back-packing, wildlife watching, biking and fishing. There is a swimming beach on Lake Logan which also features a snack bar, drinking water, clean bathrooms, changing rooms and a children's playground. Other amenities at Hocking Hills State Park include a visitors center, educational displays, a camp office, rental cottages, a dining lodge, an outdoor swimming pool, shower houses and primitive camping areas.
Horseback Riding
Hocking Hills offers plenty of opportunities for horseback riding at establishments, such as Happy Trails Horseback Rides. Guests can enjoy several different types of excursions, such as the wilderness trail or the outback trail for beginners, the airplane rock trail B and the knee knocker trail for intermediate riders and the buckeye trail for experts. Rides range from half an hour up to three hours, and pony rides are also available for small children.
Float Trips
Float trips are another way to spend time while visiting Hocking Hills, and the Hocking Hills Canoe Livery provides all the equipment and information you will need to plan a river adventure. Rentals include canoes, kayaks and rafts, and guests can choose from a variety of trips ranging from six to seven miles. The trips are perfect for beginners, and floaters will follow the scenic Hocking River while taking n the gorgeous scenery. There are also many islands and sandbars along the way, great for resting stops or a picnic.
Museums
Hocking Hills is home to a variety of historical sites and museums, such as the Hocking County Historical Society and Museum, which is open Tuesday through Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. with free admission. The museum features six different buildings, including the Schempp House, the Carriage House, the Lutz Steam Car, the Print Shop, the Hocking Valley Railroad telegraph office and the Historical Center Building. Exhibits include a military display as well as an antique farm tools and an 1881 furnished Victorian home. Guests can tour the facilities and get a glimpse of the past, including the Native American presence in Hocking County.
Golf
Golf is a fun pastime and Hocking Hills has its share of courses, such as the Windy Hills Golf Course or the Brass Ring Golf Club. Players can enjoy nine holes of scenic beauty on a semi-public layout at Windy Hills, or spend a day at the Brass Ring Golf Club playing on a Par-71 course with 18 holes of rolling terrain and amenities such as a pro golf shop, a lounge with a full service-bar, and an on-site restaurant. Golf lessons are also available.
