A good facial can leave your skin looking radiant, and if you have a good facial at least once a month, you should notice an improvement in the way your skin looks. Skin problems can be corrected with the aid of facials, and even normal skin can benefit from the procedures and products used in a facial. Before you decide to put your face in the hands of a skin care specialist, get some tips on a good facial for the skin so you know what to expect.
Initial Cleansing
No good facial starts without first cleansing the face with an appropriate cleanser. The cleanser used should be one specific to the type of skin being worked on. Cleansers are commonly made for oily skin, dry skin, combination skin, normal skin and sensitive skin. Make sure the cleanser used on your skin matches your skin type for maximum benefits.
Facial Steaming
A good facial includes a good steaming. One of the main purposes of a facial is to deep clean the skin. Steaming helps by softening oils in the pores, blackheads and other impurities. It also softens the cells on the surface of the skin so they can be washed off the skin with ease. After steaming the matter inside the pores is easier to remove as well, and less force can be applied to the skin during extractions. This lessens the risk of skin damage. Facial steaming also enhances circulation of blood from which skin cells get oxygen and valuable nutrients.
Facial Massage
Facial massage has many benefits and is often part of a good facial. It will improve the tone of the skin, and it will leave the skin looking radiant, as it encourages oil production. This part of the facial also helps get the skin ready for extractions. Make sure gentle facial massage is included in your facial, but be aware that if you have acne or a lot of broken blood vessels, you should not have massage.
Extractions
In order for a skin facial to be good, extractions should be performed on skin that has pimples, blackheads, or enlarged pores. This part of the facial may be eliminated, but doing so would make a facial incomplete. Although extractions are unpleasant and can take you out of a relaxing state induced by facial massage, extractions are necessary if you want beautiful skin. Extractions are often done with the fingers, and gentle pressure is applied to the skin. There may be times when the esthetician will have to use a little force when doing extractions, but the force should not be so strong as to cause bruising or damage to the skin.
The Mask
A mask is an essential part of a good skin facial. The type of mask used should be able to address the needs of the type of skin receiving treatment. A beneficial mask will gently exfoliate and hydrate the skin. It will also draw impurities out of the skin and nourish it.
Toner and Face Creams
All good facials end with the application of an appropriate toner to clean up the extracted matter and tighten the pores. A moisturizer suited to the skin type should also be used. The skin around the eyes is delicate and has special needs, warranting the use of a nourishing eye cream.
