San Francisco has a rich nightlife with something for everyone. Around every corner and up every hill, the city offers good food, entertainment, a variety of ways to get some exercise and a unique way to see the city. Whether you are looking for a relaxing evening in the city, or a night of dancing and dining, San Francisco offers some unique and exciting activities all over the city.

Catching a Ride

One of the best ways to see San Francisco is from a cable car. With three routes to choose from, you can take in the sights while making it to your next destination. To get the most from your ride, take a stand next to one of the exterior poles. From this vantage point, you can take in the evening lights and sights of the city.

Dancing

Try something different than techno dance music. Spice it up a little and get a good workout at one of the many Latin dance clubs in San Francisco. From salsa to merengue, most clubs feature live bands and offer dance instruction to those who are just starting out. To round out the night, many clubs serve light meals with a Latin flavor.

Evening Strolls

The city of San Francisco was made for walking. The hilly streets, the architecture and scenery make it ideal for evening strolls. Whether you prefer exploring on your own, or on one of many guided tours, which range from Chinatown to haunted architecture, the city is full of places to walk off dinner. San Francisco has trails through parks and along residential neighborhoods that take you away from the bustle of the city streets. To avoid the steeper hills of San Francisco a biking and walking map is available for download from the University of California, San Francisco.

Workouts

If walking San Francisco's hilly streets doesn't give you enough of a workout, you can get your heart rate up at a number of different health clubs. Many clubs stay open to midnight or later and some go beyond the usual cardio and weights to offer indoor climbing walls and open basketball games. If you're looking to wind down after a long night, check out the late night yoga studios in the Mission District and Pacific Heights.

Entertainment

Catching a movie is a common form of entertainment in San Francisco, but during the summer time you can enjoy a film outdoors at one of the many movies-in-the-park events or outdoor film festivals. Enjoy the evening summer weather while enjoying a film and a picnic. If you prefer dining in a restaurant and a movie, but still want to enjoy the outdoors, you can attend a foreign film in an outdoor courtyard after a gourmet meal at Foreign Cinema, a restaurant in the Mission District.
