Seattle, Washington was first settled by Europeans in 1851 and the home to the Duwamish Tribe before that. Visitors enjoy a temperate climate year round, with rain 50 percent of the time. The sunniest months are June, July and August, with temperatures generally in the 70s to 80s.Vibrant and diverse, the city's website publishes information in over 30 languages. Culture, food and coffee abound in Seattle's misty streets.

Seattle Space Needle

One of the top things to do is go to the top of the Space Needle. The Space Needle was constructed for the World's Fair in 1965 and remains one of Seattle's top tourist attractions. Emblematic of the city itself, the Space Needle is featured on postcards, refrigerator magnets and other tourist mementos. The elevator makes two stops: one at a observation deck viewpoint and another at the revolving restaurant at the top. Visitors can stop at the observation deck or make reservations to dine at the restaurant. The restaurant revolved one revolution per hour.

Log House Museum

The Log House Museum is a good place to begin a tour into Seatle's past. The renovated log cabin was one of the first year-round homes built in Seattle. The home was purchased by the Southwest Seattle Historical Society in 1995 and opened to the public in 1997. You can view exhibits about native plants or the maritime history of West Seattle.

Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market has been called the "Soul of Seattle." It is the oldest continually operating farmer's market in the United States. Farmers sell local produce alongside unique mom-and-pop shops and restaurants. The area is historically protected and no major chains are allowed, except Starbucks, who started with their first shop at this location. Street musicians dot the market as well.

Woodland Park Zoo

The Woodland Park Zoo is a world reknown zoo known for its recreation of native habitats where you can view a lion in a replica of an African savanna. The zoo is also home to Zoo Doo, composted fertilizer made at the zoo. The zoo has a snack bar, petting farm area, and offers outdoor concerts in the summer. Ongoing educational seminars are offered on topics, such as raptors or butterfies.

Houseboats

The houseboat community in Seattle is a unique neighborhood along Lake Union. Over 500 boat/homes comprise this water borne area. The area is best viewed by water. Rent a kayak or hop on a tour boat to paddle past neighbors gardening on their decks high above the waterline.
