Organization can help you move more smoothly and efficiently through your daily life, with limited frustrations associated with lost or misplaced items. If you think you have to set aside a whole day to get organized, you most likely never will accomplish your goal. Instead, you can take a small amount of time, for example, 20 to 30 minutes, out of every day to begin tackling your organizational challenges.

Start Small

It is important to start small so that you do not become overwhelmed by the organizing task at hand, according to HGTV. Develop a strategy and maintain your focus while you are organizing. Begin with a small space like a desk, bathroom, or a closet. As you begin organizing this space, maintain your focus and work only on this space until it is finished; if you allow yourself to get sidetracked you will never accomplish what you planned.

Donate

Before you begin putting things back into the space, or dividing it into organizational areas it is important to get rid of all the items you have decided to donate or purge. When you rid your space of unused items, you will have less to organize and arrange within the space. The key is to make sure that the items for donation make it to the charity instead of remaining in your house. HGTV suggests that you know ahead of time where you are going to donate your items and how they are going to get there--either by pick-up or drop-off.

Mail

Sort out mail as you get it; do not let it pile up on your kitchen counters or in a mail drawer to be looked at later. The majority of mail you receive is probably junk mail that can be quickly recycled and thrown away. When you check your mail go through it immediately, and dispose of the mail that you do not need right away. Place the bills and other important information in a safe place to review in detail later.

Eye Level

According to CNN.com, things that you often use should be kept at eye level or below, within easy reach. Things that you use less often should be kept in locations higher up; it might take more work to access, but leaves valuable space for the commonly used items. Also, if you place things in boxes labeled with what they contain it will help to keep everything organized and appealing to the eye, according to CNN.com.

Hanging Clothes

CNN.com reports that it is important to invest and use the appropriate type of hanger for clothing because specific hangers will help clothes retain their shape and stay hung. Coordinate your closet by color and like-types of clothing, such as pants hung with pants and skirts with skirts. This will help you to get dressed quicker and wear all your clothes, because if clothes are not organized correctly you might forget you own some of the items.
