VESIcare Side Effects

Physicians may recommend and prescribe the generically named medication solifenacin, sold as the brand-name drug VESIcare, to help a person regain control of bladder function. The National Institutes of Health classifies the drug as an anticholinergic that can help prevent the bladder from constricting. This bladder relaxation can return control of the organ's function to the person. People use VESIcare for an overactive bladder, which can produce incontinence, increased urination frequency and an urgent urination need. No serious common side effects of VESIcare exist, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Constipation

Because VESIcare works to relax muscles of the bladder, it can temporarily have the unwanted side effect of doing so in the intestines. Without adequate muscle function in the colon, the intestines have a difficult time processing and moving stools through to defecation. Drugs.com indicates that constipation as a side effect of VESIcare occurs commonly, but it does not classify as serious. If constipation continues, however, ask a doctor about it.

Vision Blurring

VESIcare, when it begins working, helps retain fluid in the body for normal expulsion at the appropriate time. This can lead to fluctuations of fluid throughout the body. The eyes, like the rest of the body, become accustomed to a certain level of fluid. When this changes, the eyes can find it difficult to focus because the usual fluid level needs to exist in the eyeballs for proper function. Blurry vision, too, classifies as a non-serious and common side effect of VESIcare that should go away without help from a physician, Drugs.com indicates.

Upset Stomach

Taking this medication can cause a temporary upset in the stomach. It may not go to full nausea, but the sensation in the stomach may not feel normal. The National Institutes of Health reports vomiting also may occur. This also can lead to a sensation of indigestion in the stomach. Drugs.com reports these as non-serious common side effects of VESIcare that a doctor should know about if they continue or feel severe.

Tiredness

As with any new medication, VESIcare can produce a temporary disruption of the body system. This usually does not occur in severe forms, but it can induce subtle discomforts for the person. For example, a non-serious and common side effect of VESIcare can make the person feel unusually tired, even if the person has rested. This typically ends as the body adjusts to the drug.
