The city of San Francisco in California offers multitudes of healthy and fun things to do for visitors and residents alike. Take a walk in a park or hike along a trail, play some golf or tennis, explore a museum or arts center and even relax in a day spa.

Walking, Biking and Hiking

There is a multitude of places to go to get in some great exercise via walking or biking and even hiking. Take a short ferry ride to the Angel Island State Park, the largest island in San Francisco Bay, where there are plenty of pathways to enjoy the beauty of the area. The park includes the Angel Island Loop Trail, which is a 5-mile round trip along a beautiful walking trail.
Make sure you also visit the Bay Area Ridge Trail, a 400-mile long trail that runs through the mountains surrounding the bays of San Francisco and San Pablo. You can walk, bike, hike or even ride horses along the miles of trails. There are a multitude of trails all over the bay area; make sure you visit the trail nearest to you.

Other Outdoor Fitness

Should the mood strike you, you can always take in a round or two of golf at one of San Francisco's golf courses. Visit the Lincoln Park Golf Course or the Harding Park Golf Course, both 18-hole courses that will provide plenty of walking exercise and fun.
For those that enjoy tennis, be sure to take some time and play a game or two at one of the city's many tennis courts, such as the Balboa, Fulton or Golden Gate Park tennis courts.

Indoor Fitness

Even if the weather doesn't cooperate for outdoor activities, you can still get in some exercise and have fun at one of San Francisco's several gyms, such as the 24-Hour Fitness or Gold's Gym. Every gym offers free weights, plenty of exercise equipment such as elliptical machines and even saunas. Both 24-Hour Fitness and Gold's Gym have several locations around the city.

Educational Venues

San Francisco offers plenty of educational opportunities for both adults and children. Visit the Exploratorium, where you can experience the many science exhibits the facility has to offer, including several hands on exhibits.
For a brief history lesson, visit the Asian Art Museum, where you can travel through Asian history and immerse yourself in Asian culture. The museum contains exhibits such as the Shanghai Celebration, an Asian art collection and dozens of paintings and other art exhibits.
For an educational yet fun time, visit the San Francisco Zoo. Stroll through the zoo and see the more than 250 species of animals, such as reptiles and mammals, and the amazing botanical collection. See the many varieties of birds as well--from ducks and eagles, to flamingos and penguins.

Spas and Relaxation

After a full day of fun and activities, unwind in one of San Francisco's area spas, such as the Kabuki Springs and Spa, located in Japantown. This spa offers different kinds of massages, facials and body treatments. The spa even offers acupuncture and communal baths. Experience all the relaxation that this spa has to offer.
Other area spas, such as the Nob Hill Spa or the LaBelle Day Spa, offer many of the same services including facials and massages. Nob Hill offers seaweed wraps, special massage therapies, facials and treatments for men. The LaBelle spa offers Pilates classes, special treatments for the hands and feet and also has services for men.
