Awareness, choices and experience all influence the active process of wellness, according to the National Wellness Institute. Wellness programs assist individuals in achieving and maintaining well-being by creating opportunities to foster joy and balance and to achieve a healthy balance of mind, body and soul. Corporations, faith-based groups, universities and other organizations offer wellness programs.

Employee Wellness Programs

Employee wellness programs may highlight such topics as stress management, physical fitness, nutrition and counseling. As part of employee assistance, these programs may offer health assessments, wellness workshops, counseling sessions and fitness center memberships, among others. Employee wellness programs aim to enhance employee health, leading to more productivity in the workplace. When a company implements a wellness program correctly, it can enjoy long-term financial benefit, according to CNN health writer Alison Harding.

Faith-Based Wellness Programs

Faith-based wellness programs generally focus on spiritual wholeness and the relationship between wellness and spirituality. The Consumer Health Resource Information Service reports that faith-based wellness programs play a major role in creating awareness about health issues, disease prevention, homelessness and hunger in a community. As community-based organizations, churches and other faith-based groups can offer wellness programs to those who might otherwise not have an opportunity to participate.

University Wellness Programs

According to the University of Michigan, one goal of university wellness programs is to strengthen health and well-being by promoting a healthy way of life.Services of the University of Michigan's wellness program include weight management services, mental and emotional health consultations, disease management programs and occupational health clinics.
