Climbing
The Miami Children's Museum offers an unrivaled variety of kid-friendly fun with 14 permanent exhibits that encourage imagining, learning and playing. Highlights of the museum's many activities include climbing the Castle of Dreams, a two-story sand castle, and a Health and Wellness Center, where kids learn the many benefits of a healthy lifestyle. You can top off your trip to the museum at Mt. MiChiMu, a rock wall that makes for some competitive fun for all who dare to take the climbing challenge.
Swimming
The Coral Gables Venetian Pool is one of Miami's many historic gems and a must-see for anyone visiting the area. Parents will enjoy the nostalgic scenery and breathtaking Venetian architecture, while children will enjoy a day of swimming in the 820,000-gallon cool spring water pool and exploring the coral caves. The pool is formed from a coral rock quarry and features two stunning waterfalls. However, for safety reasons, children under 3 are not allowed at the pool.
Hiking
Like many parks in Miami, Everglades National Park at Homestead offers a variety of outdoor activities, including canoeing, kayaking and camping. However, this particular park boasts a number of hiking trails that the entire family will enjoy. While hiking along the stroller-friendly paths, kids will also enjoy the wildlife and natural habitats surrounding the self-guided trails. Several unpaved trails are available for cycling enthusiasts. The park also offers a program through which kids can become Everglades National Park junior rangers.
Bicycling
With 1.25 miles of natural beach and an abundance of activities, Billy Baggs Cape Florida State Park stands out among the many Miami parks. Between the boisterous playground, camping, canoeing, kayaking and hiking, there is no shortage of family friendly fun. Of course you will definitely want to enjoy the paved and unpaved bike paths, consisting of easily navigable flat terrains. Bicycle rentals, including cruisers, English, tandems, trikes and quads for the whole family, are available on site.
Snorkeling
If you are searching for some family fun that doesn't involve much land, then Biscayne National Park is the place for you. In fact, you will need a boat to access all of the aquamarine waters, islands and coral reefs that the park encompasses. Not to worry though, glass-bottom boat tours are available. Camping, walking trails, scuba diving, canoeing and kayaking are some of the many activities available, but younger kids will particularly enjoy snorkeling through the shallow reefs.
