When traveling to San Francisco with kids, don't worry; there is an abundance of activities to keep the little ones happy and active. Spend time outside in the California sun for a day of exploration among high hills, an urban farm, imaginative playgrounds or interactive museum exhibits.

Park

Head to Golden Gate Park, where you can explore de Young Art Museum, visit the Children's Playground at Lincoln Avenue and end up at the 1912 Carousel, which has 62 animals for your children to ride. Located at the south entrance to the park is the San Francisco Zoo.

Recreational Center

Spend a day with your child at one of San Francisco's several recreational centers. The Hamilton Recreation Center, Playground and Swimming Pool, located on Geary Blvd., is a multi-use public center that underwent renovations before reopening in March 2010. Here you will find a children's playground, tennis courts, volleyball courts, gymnasium and pool. The indoor pool features two water slides and the facility has daily recreational free swims.

Lombard Street

Every child will love walking up the "crookedest street" in the world. This San Francisco landmark is located off Hyde Street. Consider making Lombard Street a more active attraction by having you and the kids get out and hike up this curvy street. You will have a nearly panoramic view of San Francisco from the top of the hill.

Farm

Spend a day out at Alemany Farm teaching your children about nutritional food and showing them how many of their fruits and vegetables grow. Alemany Farm is a San Francisco project that is designed to help the community by providing healthy organic produce. Many days a month, the Farm allows for children to visit and help with planting or picking fruits and vegetables. This 4.5-acre working farm is a collaboration of volunteers, the government of San Francisco and local residents. Additionally, the farm offers workshops, educational courses and provides tours for children and adults.

Museum

The Discovery Museum is designed to keep children entertained with interactive and hands-on exhibits spread out both inside and outdoors. Children can play in water that flows through a fake rock bed, explore a fishing boat or paint in an art studio. This museum also provides some of the best views of San Francisco featuring the Bay and the Bridge.
