Archery requires hours of practice repeating this pattern: draw, anchor and release. Good archery games help you practice shooting your bow from a variety of distances and positions under the pressure of competition. These games will keep you entertained while you improve your skills and push yourself to improve.
Roving
Roving or stump shooting is a traditional archery game. With a quiver full of blunt-tipped arrows, you wander through a wooded area or field picking targets from the natural features. See that stump? It's a trophy deer. That bunch of dead leaves? It's a cock pheasant ready to spring into flight. The game can be played alone or with two archers picking targets at challenging distances and trying to shoot the closest to the mark.
Kick It and Stick It
Kick an old soccer ball or a small shooting block out onto your shooting range. Wherever it stops, stick it with an arrow on the first try. If you miss, walk up and kick it away again. By breaking away from fixed targets, this game develops your ability to judge distance.
Balloon Burst
Pin a balloon to your target butt. First shooter to pop it wins. No matter how long you have been shooting, attaching a balloon livens the action. The bright color and motion force you to focus on a specific part of the target. Too easy? Try inflating the balloon to the size of a golf ball.
Archery Golf
Set up a course of nine targets in a large area free of people. Lay it out like a golf course. Drive for distance with a long shot. From where the arrow lands shoot again at the target. When close enough, go for the bullseye. Fewest shots to the target wins, with ties settled by closest to the bull.
