Though Atlantic City is known for its casinos as the thing to do, there are plenty of other healthy, educational and enjoyable options to take part in during your visit. The city and its surrounding towns have plenty to offer. Have a nice stroll along the boardwalk, take part in a round of golf, visit museums and even relax at an area spa.
Walking and Biking
You can get in some great exercise walking or biking along the Atlantic City boardwalk or the Ocean City boardwalk. At just over four miles long, the Atlantic City boardwalk is a great place to take a morning or afternoon stroll and take in the sights. The Ocean City boardwalk, about a half-hour drive away, stretches three miles and is open to bicyclists until 11 a.m.
Outdoor Sports
Though Atlantic City itself doesn't have any public golf courses, there are several located within the area. Located 15 minutes from Atlantic City, the Blue Heron Pines Golf Course in Egg Harbor City is an 18-hole course that covers 6,777 yards. Visit the Twisted Dune Golf Course in Egg Harbor Township, just minutes from Atlantic City as well. The Twisted Dune is an 18-hole course that covers 7,283 yards.
If you don't feel like traveling too far from Atlantic City, there's always the many miniature golf courses that Atlantic City has to offer. You'll still get a little exercise in as you stroll through the mini golf areas.
Indoor Recreation
Should the weather not cooperate during your visit to Atlantic City, you still can get in some exercise and recreation at the Aquatic & Fitness Center in Ocean City. The facility offers a 25-meter pool, cardio equipment, a racquetball court and a studio room for yoga, Pilates and Tai Chi classes.
Educational Venues
Atlantic City and its surrounding area offer many educational things to do for the whole family. Visit the Atlantic City Historical Museum, where you can stroll through and learn about the city's rich history. You can view artifacts, costumes, posters, photographs and memorabilia from past Miss America pageants.
View works of art at the Sagemore Gallery in Ocean City. The gallery has a plethora of original artwork, paintings and more. Or stop in at the Ripley's Believe or Not Museum on the boardwalk of Atlantic City and see all the oddities on display.
Spas and Relaxation
Relax and unwind in one of Atlantic City's many day spas. Most are located in the casinos, such as the Spa at the Taj, the Caesar's Health Spa and Fitness Center or the Spa at Bally's. You can also travel to Brigantine, about five miles away, and visit the Genie Salon & Spa. All spas offer basically the same services--different kinds of massages, reflexology treatments, facials, manicures and pedicures.
