5 Ways to Look Party-Perfect for the Holidays

If the thought of getting ready for holiday parties fills you with angst, I have good news for you. You don’t have to redo an entire face of makeup or spend hours in front of the mirror. It’s about adding a few special touches to your daytime makeup. Here are five quick ways to look party-perfect:

1. Touch up your face. Use a bit of eye cream to smooth out the concealer you put on in the morning. Then, set the concealer with a dusting of sheer powder to keep it from creasing. Since foundation has a tendency to wear off throughout the day, spot-apply foundation wherever you see redness showing through—usually around the nose and mouth—and on any blemishes.

2. Add shimmer. For evening, I love a touch of shimmer because it gives the skin a pretty, incandescent glow. Try shimmery highlighter dusted on your cheekbones over your daytime blush; white or off-white silver shadow smudged on your lower lids and inner corners of the eyes (this is one of my runway tricks); or a shimmering, high-shine lip gloss. Shimmer is best worn in moderation, so limit it to one or two areas on the face.

3. Line your eyes. Black gel eyeliner is my favorite, fool-proof way to quickly dress up any look. Line your upper lashline starting at the inner corner of the eye and extend the liner slightly at the outer corner of the eye. Make sure the liner is thick enough and visible when your eyes are open.

4. Go for bold lips. A gorgeous red or burgundy lip shade adds instant drama to your look. For the most impact, choose a rich, creamy texture. If your style is more low-key, you can still wear this look—just choose a super sheer gloss or lip stain. Balance the strong color on your lips with pink blush and minimal eye makeup (think neutral shadow, charcoal liner and a few coats of black mascara).

5. Change your accessories. When I need to do a quick-change from day to night (and don’t want to put on a different outfit), I reach for sparkly jewelry and a pair of heels. These small changes make even the simplest outfit, like a sweater and jeans, look party-ready.
