Ohio's Lake Erie coast is home to many cities including Cleveland and Sandusky. Despite the wildly fluctuating Ohio weather, both cities are teeming with activities and attractions that let you bask in Lake Erie summers and enjoy yourself despite the snowy winters. From high energy skating rinks to relaxing parks, you'll find something to suit you on the North Coast.

Have a Picnic in the Park

Pack a basket full of healthy food and head to a local park for wholesome fun. In Sandusky, choose Shoreline Park overlooking Sandusky Bay and relax in a shady spot while the kids frolic on the playground or enjoy one of Cleveland's lakefront green spaces. Edgewater Park has top-notch views of the Cleveland skyline and lake. The open areas are conducive to freestyle activities or take a cool dip on a hot day at the beach while industrious castle builders make good use of the sand.

Go Roller Skating

Whether you don retro quads or inlines, roller skating is high-energy fun for kids and adults alike. Sandusky's Skateworld is open year round and is part of the Ghostly Manor Thrill Center, where you can take in a 3D movie or tour the scary mansion. In Cleveland, Brookpark Skateland offers open skate sessions and theme events such as 90's Night.

Hit the Midways

Rollercoasters and bumper cars never go out of style and Ohio's North Coast has plenty of amusement park options. With 17 coasters, Cedar Point--a Sandusky destination since the 1800's--will not disappoint. Housed in the 1 million-square-foot International Exposition and Conference Center in Cleveland, the IX Indoor Amusement Park is open for about a month each spring and features rides, games and entertainment. Memphis Kiddie Park caters to the tiny tots with a ride height restriction of 50 inches and under on many of its 11 rides, such as the pint-sized Ferris wheel.

Stroll the Gardens

Winter or summer, Ohio's coast has beautiful gardens for restoring your senses. Sandusky's Washington Park boasts floral mounds with changing displays, a gazebo for gatherings and summer concerts, and a clock nestled amid bunches of flowers. The Red Popcorn Wagon serves up paper sacks of the old-fashioned treat. In Cleveland, visit the Rockefeller Greenhouse deep in the winter months and browse tropical plants, cacti and a water garden no matter how furiously the cold wind blows outside.

Visit a Quirky Museum

For something different, try a museum that's off the beaten path. In Cleveland, the sculpture center is all about art in three dimensions or celebrate a long-standing Cleveland tradition at the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame. In Sandusky, the Merry-Go-Round Museum showcases the art of the carousel and its fantastical animals. The tour ends with a ride on a 1939 Allan Herschell model.
