Downtown San Jose has a number of recreational facilities and parks where you can enjoy activities like ice skating, biking and jogging. Even golfers will find some options for getting in a round or two at a downtown golf course. And, getting pampered in the city is easy with the handful of full-service spas in the city center district.

Health & Beauty

Downtown San Jose has a handful of spas and fitness facilities that will keep you looking and feeling good. Get in a work out at Bally's Total Fitness on South 1st Street. Try the various cardio machines, like an elliptical or magnetic resistance bike. Then get pumped up with Bally's numerous strength training machines and free weights. After you have broken a sweat, head over to either Plum Spa on South 1st Street or Son's Massage on North 4th Street. Both parlors feature an array of treatments and massage therapies that rejuvenate the body.

Golfing

You don't have to leave downtown in order to get in a round of golf. The San Jose Municipal Golf Course is spread out over a flat terrain that features forgiving fairways. The 6,700-yard championship course is ideal for walking and can be enjoyed by golfers of any skill level. Rancho del Pueblo is an executive course with three lakes and numerous bunkers that will challenge even veteran golfers. The eight par-3 and one par-4 holes are ideal for beginners, as the short 1,418-yard course is quickly played, even with some bad shots.

Jogging and Walking

The 156-acre Kelley Park is located in the heart of the city. The Happy Hollow Park and Zoo is located within Kelley Park and has children's rides and a petting zoo. The Japanese Friendship Garden has meticulously landscaped greens, walking trails and koi-filled ponds. Joggers and walkers alike make use of the park's many paths, and its ideal city center location makes for an easy getaway without leaving the downtown area.

Biking

Bikers are allowed to use Hellyer County Park's velodrome on Saturday mornings. The banked track measures 333 meters and is one of just six velodrome tracks on the west coast. Besides riding on a track, bikers are free to make use of the park's 354 acres that are located in the heart of the city. The various paths and trails that snake their way through the park feature creeks, abundant wildlife and forestry. A range of wide, multiple-use trails are especially designed to accommodate the many bikers and in-line skaters that frequent the park.

Ice Skating

The Logitech Ice at San Jose facility welcomes skaters of all ages and skill levels. The large ice rink is open for ice dancing and freestyle skating, as well as hockey and other ice sports such as curling and broomball. Speed skaters can also get their kicks at the Logitech rink. Fans are free to take in a practice session of the San Jose Sharks professional hockey team. Logitech is the official training facility for the NHL team.
