You have suffered through the acne and done your due diligence to clear it from your skin. Your skin, however, has been left less than perfect. Post acne conditions can leave spots of discoloration where acne bumps were, and they can also leave a variety of different types of scars. Thankfully, home remedies can be used to treat your skin post acne.
Lemon Juice
Lemon juice has natural bleaching properties and is used to treat post acne spots or any scars with some discoloration. To use, dab a cotton ball or cotton swab into some fresh-squeezed lemon juice. Apply the juice directly to the spot and let it sit for 10 minutes, then rinse. The American Chronicle website warns that the use of lemon juice can leave your skin sensitive to the sun, and the treated area must be covered with clothing or sunscreen.
Fruits
Many fruits are good for the skin, as they are high in antioxidants that help bring skin to its optimum health and fight free radicals. Many fruits have high levels of vitamin C, an antioxidant known for boosting the immune system, which can provide a gentle exfoliation due to the acidity. Exfoliating can help remove layers of scars, diminishing their appearance over time. Pineapple can also help fade acne spots; puree some pineapple, and then apply the puree directly to the scarred skin and surrounding tissue. Leave on for 10 to 15 minutes, and then rinse.
Olive Oil
After exfoliating, a moisturizer such as olive oil should be applied to your skin to prevent it from drying out. Post acne spots and scarring can deplete the skin's elasticity and suppleness. Applying a moisturizer that penetrates deep into the scar will help to restore elasticity and provide a softness that helps to diminish the appearance of acne scars. Only a very small amount is needed---about a pea size to cover the entire face.
Sandalwood/Rose Water
One of the most common home remedies for post acne scars is a mixture of sandalwood and rose water. Mix a little rose water with sandalwood powder until a pliable paste is formed. Apply the paste over the acne-scarred skin and surrounding tissue. Leave the mixture on overnight---not only to help diminish scars, but to reap all the paste's benefits, which include moisturizing properties---and rinse it off in the morning.
Essential Oils
According to Acne-Removal-Scar.net, research is being done around the world to determine the benefits of essential oils in relation to acne and other skin conditions. They are known to help regenerate damaged skin tissue and have been used to treat scars for many generations. Rose hip, Helichrysum, lavender, neroli and sage essential oils have all been used to successfully diminish scars.
