Apple cider vinegar comes from fermenting apple juice into hard apple cider and then fermenting the apple cider into the apple cider vinegar. It contains potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium and many other vitamins and minerals that are needed for good health. The medicinal benefits have been known since around 400 B.C., when Hippocrates recognized its healing powers as both an antiseptic and antibiotic, says wisegeek.com.

Blood Glucose

Apple cider vinegar has been shown to lower blood glucose levels. Wisegeek.com states that a study done at Arizona State University showed that apple cider vinegar can reduce blood glucose levels by up to 6 percent when it is taken on a regular basis.

Bad Breath and Halitosis

Wisegeek.com and homeremediesweb.com say that apple cider vinegar is good for combating both bad breath and halitosis because of its acidity. Combine one-half tablespoon of apple cider vinegar with one cup of water, and gargle the the mix for 10 seconds until the cup is empty.

Body Odor

Because of its acidity, apple cider vinegar can help fight body and foot odor because it adjusts the skin's pH levels and helps eliminate odor-causing bacteria. For armpits, wipe undiluted ACV with a cotton ball. For the feet, fill a pan with warm water and one-third cup of apple cider vinegar, and soak the feet for 15 minutes once a week, homeremediesweb.com recommends.

Acne

Homeremediesweb.com says that apple cider vinegar can cure acne by killing the bacteria, balancing out the skin's pH level and absorbing the excessive oil that can cause acne to break out. Combine one part vinegar and three to four parts water, and apply to the skin with a clean cotton ball; leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse, repeating three times a day. For severe cases of acne, leave the mixture on overnight without rinsing.

Constipation and Diarrhea

Constipation and diarrhea can be helped with apple cider vinegar. Homeremediesweb.com notes that both conditions can be fixed by mixing 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar with an 8-oz. glass of water and drinking it three times a day. Apple cider vinegar contains a significant amount of pectin, which is a water-soluble fiber that improves digestion and normalizes acid levels in the stomach. For constipation, apple cider vinegar helps by assisting the body in performing natural bowel movements, and for diarrhea it acts as a protective coating that helps soothe the colon's irritated lining. To make apple cider vinegar more palatable, it can mixed with either apple juice or grape juice instead of water.

Hair Conditioner

Natural-homeremedies.org says that apple cider vinegar can be used to help clean and condition the hair. Add 75ml of apple cider vinegar to one liter of water, and after washing the hair, rinse with the ACV/water mix. Not only will the solution make the hair shiny and soft, it also will help reduce dandruff, prevent baldness and cure an itchy scalp.
