Focused passing drills can help your basketball players develop consistent and accurate passing skills. Alternate between drills that focus on different kinds of passing, such as chest passes and bounce passes. You can incorporate team and individual competition into some of these drills and reward winners by letting them sit out of a round of sprints.

Hot Hands

Players cannot dribble in this drill, which forces them to focus on passing. Each time a player receives the ball, she can only take two steps before passing it to a teammate. Players should count their steps out loud to avoid taking too many. Players can use any kind of pass.

Pass and Go Circle

This drill combines movement and conditioning with focused passing. Have the players stand in a circle in the center of the court, with about 10 feet from the players across the circle. Have one player stand in the middle of the circle. Give the ball to a player in the circle and have him pass to the player in the middle, who then passes to the next player in the circle. Each player must follow his pass, moving to the middle of the circle and then back out to the circle. Run this drill with chest passes or bounce passes. Have the players count out the group's successful passes until they reach 100. If the team reaches this goal, reward the players by letting them choose the next drill.

Eye Contact Circle Passing

This drill helps develop trust among teammates. Have your players stand in a circle in the center of the court, with an arm's length between each player. Give one player a ball to start the drill. That player must look around the circle, make eye contact with another player and immediately pass the ball to that player. To make the drill more challenging, add a second ball and designate one ball for chest passes and the other for bounce passes.

Clap Pass

This competitive drill helps players increase their reaction times. Have your players stand in a circle while you stand in the center of the circle. Pass the ball to one player after another at random. Each time you pass the ball to a player, she must clap before catching it. If a player fails to catch the ball, fails to clap or claps at a pass fake, she must exit the circle. The last player left standing wins and gets to skip a round of sprints.
