With an array of activities to choose from, and a naturally beautiful setting, Seattle is home to many activities any mother would enjoy on Mother's Day. Whether your mother enjoys the beautiful simplicity of a natural park, the adventure of boating on the lake, a challenging hike through the mountains or a stroll through the market, Seattle has plenty of activities for you and your mother.

Activities

Seattle is a haven of markets, hiking and biking. Pike Place Market is a beautiful place to celebrate Mother's Day. Check out the array of flower stands and enjoy a free self-guided tour through the market's stands. While you're there, buy Mom a flower bouquet. Greenlake is well known for its easily accessible walking and biking trail. Rent bikes at Greenlake by the hour or by the day and take a loop or two around the lake. Exert some energy with on Tiger Mountain's trails that are ideal for hikers of all skill sets.

Parks

The Seattle park system is one of the largest in the country. Discovering Capitol Hill's Volunteer Park can take nearly all day, so budget a few hours. Some of the park's features include an arboretum, greenhouse, Japanese tea garden and Museum of Asian Art. Mom will enjoy a trip to view the Ballard Locks botanical garden, a traditional English garden. View the complexity of mechanisms in one of the largest ship canals. Guides explain how the canals work as they lower and raise the ships in the locks. Round out the day at the beach with Mom at Golden Gardens, and complete Mother's Day with a picnic lunch and a trip to the duck pond.

Boating

Surrounded by water, Seattle is home to many boating activities. Board one of the several Mother's Day brunches aboard cruise ships in Elliott Bay. If you'd rather be your own captain, you can borrow a boat from the Center for Wooden Boats on Lake Union and steer Mom around the lake. Or if your mother enjoys boats but would rather not steer away from the pier, a tour of the famous Seattle houseboats would be an ideal way to spend the day.

Healthy Food

Treat Mom to a healthy locally sourced meal at The Herb Farm in Seattle. The Ballard Market is home to street vendors that sell organic produce and locally made baked goods and organic treats. Buy Mom breakfast, a coffee and a bouquet of flowers all in one trip. Plus, the musical entertainment is free. Or take Mom to one of Seattle's healthy bakeries that offer a variety of gluten-free breakfast, lunch and dessert options.

Museums and Culture

Visit the Seattle Art Museum, home to paintings by Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and an array of traveling exhibitions. Or visit the Olympic Sculpture Park down the street and witness the natural beauty of Elliott Bay as the backdrop to modern sculpture. If your mother enjoys history, take her to History House in Fremont, home to historical photos and other pieces of Seattle's history.
