Clean & Clear Oxygenating Ultra-Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 is formulated for people with oily skin. Manufactured by household-products giant Johnson & Johnson, the Clean & Clear line offers five moisturizers--this is one of only two that include SPF. The entire product line is widely available in drugstores and online.
Purpose
This moisturizer is intended to hydrate skin with a light, oil-free formula that provides SPF protection. The oxygenating part of the formula comes from a coralline concentrate called "coralline officinalis extract." This concentrate is a derivative of red algae, intended to help your skin absorb oxygen. The active ingredients in the SPF, octinoxate and oxybenzone, help keep the sun's harmful ultraviolet rays from damaging your skin.
Why Oxygen?
Oxygen became a hot skincare topic with the rise in popularity of oxygen facials. Believed to hydrate, plump and smooth the skin, these facial treatments came into high demand with the rise of high-definition television. Models and actresses, including Madonna, believed the oxygen-rich treatments helped their skin stay smooth and youthful-looking. Although there is no scientific evidence for this, many consumers swear by the positive effect oxygen has on their skin. Clean & Clear claims that the oxygen your skin absorbs acts as a purifying agent to cleanse and nourish your skin.
Why SPF?
SPF stands for "sun protection factor," a measure of how much protection a sunscreen offers from the sun's harmful UV radiation. UV radiation consists of UVA and UVB rays, both of which are destructive, causing sunburns and other damage. An SPF factor of 15 provides more than 93 percent protection against UVB; as of yet, scientists haven't found a comprehensive way to measure the amount of UVA protection sunscreen offers. Oxybenzone, of the two active ingredients in this moisturizer, is a benzophenone--a type of chemical sunscreen offering complete protection from all UVB rays and some UVA rays.
Recommended Usage
Clean & Clear recommends the Oxygenating Ultra-Light Moisturizer for oily skin. They suggest using it twice a day, morning and night. This moisturizer can be used alone or worn under makeup.
