San Francisco exudes romance with the dazzling nighttime lights reflecting off the bay and views of the Golden Gate Bridge. The City by the Bay offers lots of things for couples to do, both special and traditional. Known for being a health-conscious and progressive city, San Francisco also has plenty of ways for couples to enjoy quality time together while being active.
Picnic by the Bay
A nice picnic in the warm sunshine will never lose its charm. But if it's on a beach overlooking San Francisco Bay, you have an ideal date. There are several picnicking areas throughout the city, but some of the most popular include China Beach, Baker Beach (be prepared for an all-nude area on the north end) and Crissy Field's coastline. China Beach has close-up views of the Golden Gate Bridge and you can take a stroll from there to Baker Beach.
Sail at Sunset
The image of watching the sun set at dusk has always evoked romance, and in San Francisco Bay you can see it happen while drifting lazily on a boat. Rent a boat for the day and sail off toward the quaint town of Sausalito for dinner. Or keep it private and bring dinner aboard with you. If you don't feel comfortable playing the role of captain, there are numerous companies that offer tours of the Bay. Adventure Cat Sailing Charters and SF Bay Adventures have private and group boating excursions.
Cycle Along Golden Gate
Another way to venture off toward Sausalito is by cycling along the Golden Gate Bridge. It's a great way for couples to spend time together and encourage healthy living. A one-way ride on the bridge is 1.7 miles, so you'll get a good workout going there and back. For a different experience, ride on a tandem bike together. You can rent one at Fisherman's Wharf.
Wine With a View
Get a panoramic view of the city and sip on some California wine with your date at top level floors of hotels such as the Fairmont, the Mandarin Oriental, the Grand Hyatt or the Intercontinental Hotel. Take in some fine cuisine at one of the hotels to make your date complete.
Have a Laugh
Experience the soul-healing ability of laughter by enjoying an evening at one of the city's comedy clubs. It's not exactly "romantic" but can be a very connective way for couples to spend time together. Nothing beats the memories that laughing at the same thing brings and San Francisco has many clubs that feature world-renowned comedians on a regular basis. For some great laughs, visit Cobb's Comedy Club or Punch Line.
