Millions of Americans are trying to lose weight at any given moment. The high prevalence of obesity and health problems related to obesity is one of the main reasons why so many different diets are available. The Fullbar diet is a specific diet that claims to help people lose weight.

Definition

The Fullbar diet involves the strategic use of filling, fiber-rich foods. It was created by Dr. Michael Snyder, a weight-loss surgeon. According to the official Fullbar website, dieters simply eat or drink a Fullbar product 30 minutes before every meal, along with 16 oz. of water. The products are high in fiber, which helps cause a feeling of fullness. The Fullbar diet is supposed to reduce the amount of calories a person eats in a day because Fullbar food eaten before meals causes him to feel full.

Products

As of 2010, the Fullbar company currently sells Fullbars, Fullbites, Truffulls and Aquafull BeFull Solutions. Fullbars were the first product introduced by the company, and they are essentially protein bars made with whole grains and other filling ingredients. FullBites are small pouches of cheese or barbecue flavored crisps, while Truffulls are chocolate-flavored desserts. The Aquafull BeFull Solutions are powdered drink mixes that add flavor and fiber to regular water.

Cost

Fullbar products, which are essential on the Fullbar diet, are fairly expensive. The Fullbar diet website sells boxes of 24 Fullbars for $29.99, which makes each snack bar $1.25. The FullBites and the Truffulls both cost $9.99 for 6 servings. The Aquafull Be Full Solutions cost $19.99 for 20 individually packaged drink mixes. Because the Fullbar diet mandates using one product before every meal, the cost could really add up.

Effectiveness

No scientific studies regarding the effectiveness of the Fullbar diet have been published as of the middle of 2010, yet the theory behind the Fullbar diet makes sense, at least for weight loss in the short term. According to the journal Nutrition, people who eat diets rich in fiber consume fewer calories throughout the day and generally weigh less. Therefore, high-fiber diets can help a person lose weight when combined with regular exercise. The Harvard School of Public Health recommends that adults get 25 to 35 g of dietary fiber every day through foods such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Problems

While it's possible that the Fullbar diet can be effective for weight loss, it is unlikely that anyone will stay on the Fullbar diet for a lifetime because it stipulates always purchasing specific products. Additionally, it sometimes may be difficult to know exactly when meal times are, especially when dining out, in keeping with the need to consume a Fullbar product a half-hour before meals.
