Especially as the summer months approach, many people strive to lose those extra pounds and get into shape for swimsuit season. Slimming down won't happen overnight, but with the right techniques and discipline it's possible to quickly drop those pounds. Remember that losing weight is not just about exercise, but it is also diet, proper rest and reducing stress levels.
Single Leg Pulse
When you're hoping to slim down fast, it helps to pick exercises that work various muscles. One such exercise, according to Fitness magazine, is the single leg pulse, which targets shoulders, abs, butt and legs. This exercise requires a small ball. First, plant your feet firmly on the ground and, holding the ball, extend your arms forward while standing on your left leg. Slowly raise your right leg in front of you and slightly bend your left leg, lowering your body a few inches. Finally, straighten your leg and pulse up and down between 10 and 20 times. Switch legs. Repeat. For beginning exercisers, hold the ball near your chest with your elbows out. More experienced exercises can raise one leg as high as possible when doing repetitions.
Walking
If you are not as experienced with exercise techniques, simply walking off extra weight might be more for you. Prevention magazine recommends a walking regimen of 20 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes depending on your fitness level. For the best results, the magazine reminds exercisers to be consistent. To maximize the workout, go for speed and mix walking at easy, brisk, strong and powerful paces. About 25 percent more calories are burned for every 0.5 miles per hour increased. Raising your heart rate will also give you an energy boost that will last all day. Walking workouts can help you lose up to three pounds a month.
Weight Lifting
Grabbing weights and doing some serious lifting can quickly work to make a weight difference. Try to do at least three sets of 15 repetitions using weights between eight and 10 lbs. According to report on WTNH TV, weight lifting is one of the fastest ways to burn calories. Hit the weights as often as possible. If you have time, jump rope in between sets to aid in calorie burning.
